The French Red Cross thanks all the people who supported its action during the last month and year.
Please find below information about of our last activities:
Hurricane Matthew: the number of victims is increasing
The hurricane Matthew that stroke Haïti at the beginning of October is one of the most powerful hurricane of the past ten years. It killed at least 372 people, and more than 750 000 people now need humanitarian aid. The French Red Crossprovides assistance, in order to respond to the emergency, but also to build a long-term response: prevention responses and actions to fight the cholera epidemic, response to food insecurity. The French Red Cross’ regional emergency hub for the America-Caribbean zone brought 40 tons of emergency products (hygiene kits, shelter kits, etc.) in the country.
Caregivers’ national day
There are currently more than 8 million people of all ages in France who care for a close family member suffering of illness or disability on a daily basis. The French Red Cross signed an agreement with the French Association of Caregivers, in order to collectively contribute to develop actions in favor of caregivers, who play a major role in accompanying dependent persons. The objective of the collaboration is to develop initiatives that encourage the preservation of the relationship between the cared-for person and the caregiver, whatever the living environment, medical institution or home.
A military attack hampers the action of the Syrian Red Crescent
During the night of 19 to 20 September 2016, a humanitarian convoy carried by the UN and the Syrian Red Crescent, and a warehouse of Syrian Red Crescent were attacked in Orem Al Kubra, near Alep. About 20 civilians and a member of the Syrian Red Crescent were killed, while they were unloading trucks transporting humanitarian aid. This attack takes food aid and medical aid away from a thousand civilians. These attacks represent a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
