Dear Donors,
We have some good news to give you to herald 2013!!
Devipur Karunamayee Girl’s High School is one of the main girls’ schools in the Sundarbans, situated in a remote village with no electricity. It is a government sponsored school with more than 800 students. On 19 November 2012, the girls' hostel, where 40 girls live and study, was lit up with 18 solar lights! The solar lights are CFL ones of 17 watts each with 3 high powered batteries and 3 panels. The students who live in the hostel are the between 10 to 15 years of age. This lights will not only help them to study but also help in their routine activities.
Bravo to you, our donors, for lighting up the lives of these young girls!! The students in the Sundarbans look forward to your continuing support.
Have a wonderful New Year!
With warm regards,
Diti Mookherjee

Dear Donor,
We are excited to let you know that the hostel of the Debipur Karunamoyee Balika Vidyapith , the only girls' school in Maipith area in the Sundarbans, will be provided with at least 15 solar lights from three 74 watt solar panels. The girls' of the hostel come from underprivileged tribal and scheduled caste families. There are only 4 working solar lights for 40 girls (of which we had given 2 lights) and it is very difficult for them to study in the evening with kerosene lamps. The teachers of the school repeatedly requested ASED to help to light the hostel. After personally visiting the hostel with the ASED team, we have taken the decision to provide the lights. These will be installed on November 17, 2012.
We will also be providing individual lamps to poor, meritorious students in the new year.
During the Festival of Lights (Diwali), we encourage you, your family and friends, to donate a solar lamp to a deserving child in the Sundarbans!
Many thanks for your continued support,
With warm regards,
Diti

More solar lamps to be given later this year!
By Diti Mookherjee | Project Leader
Dear Donor,
Our project to provide poor, meritorious students with solar lamps is going well! We thank you for partnering with us.
Till now, 450 students have received individual solar lamps and more than 400 students are benefiting from the 7 sets of twin solar tube lights provided for school hostels and coaching centers. With the funds raised since then we will be providing more individual solar lamps as well as twin solar tube lights later this year.
The project has been very well received by the students, the teachers of the schools, the parents of the students and the community. The demand for the lights is ever increasing!
It is fulfilling to work with this project, which is helping to change the lives of many children and youth in the Sundarbans.
Thank you once again for your support.
Sincerely,
Diti Mookherjee
