Dear Kind Supporter,
We are very pleased to let you know that 100 students on the remote L-Plot island in the Sundarbans received solar lamps on 8 August 2014. They were handed over the lamps at a ceremony organized in the local high school in the presence of the school headmaster, teachers and other dignitaries from the community. The students were shown how to use the lamps and were requested to contact the Project staff in case they faced in problem during use.
The students were inducted into the Green Rhinos Program to create youth nature leaders and viewed an audio visual presentation on the “Nature of Sundarbans”. The threats facing the Sundarbans and how students can protect the Sundarbans was discussed.
The Solar Lamps Project has now benefitted 1400 individual students in the Sundarbans.
Geetika studies in Grade 4 and lives in the remote village of Binodpur. Her parents are daily wage earners. She says, “Earlier kerosene lamps were our only source of light in the evening. But one solar lamp has changed our lives! I am able to do my lessons till late at night and my parents can use the lamp for household work, when I am not studying.”
Geetika adds, “My friends were asking if they could also receive solar lamps …they are using kerosene lamps for studying at present.”
There are many more students in the Sundarbans who need solar lamps. One lamp changes many lives! You are part of this change and we look forward to your continued support.
Thank you,
Diti
