Clean Schools, Bright Futures: Sanitation Project

Akaa Tankye Primary School

We are excited to share encouraging progress from our School Sanitation Project, made possible through the kindness and continued support of our donors. Your generosity is helping create safer, cleaner, and more dignified learning environments for children in underserved communities.

At Akaa Tankye Primary School, construction of the new urinal facility has been completed. The school community is now preparing for the final painting stage before handover.

At Teteman, the urinal block has been fully built and plastered. Final painting and finishing touches are underway, with completion expected within the next week.

At Bagla MA JHS, the school adjusted the original design to better meet their needs and is now working hard to complete the final stages. We are hopeful the project will be fully completed and handed over by the end of this month.

The impact of this project is spreading. We have already received new requests for support from:
Jasikan EP JHS
Nanankor MA Basic School
Baika Somanya MA Basic School

These schools are currently mobilising local resources and preparing their communities for the next phase. With additional donor support, we hope to begin these new projects during the second quarter of the year.

Every completed facility means improved hygiene, better attendance, increased dignity for students, and healthier school communities.

Urinals For Schools in Teteman, Baglo and Akaa communities

Our School Sanitation Project Overview

Our School Sanitation Project continues to make inspiring progress across our partner communities. Our goal remains clear, to provide safe, hygienic, and dignified sanitation facilities that allow students, especially girls, to learn comfortably and confidently.

By working hand in hand with community members through communal labour and local partnerships, we are not just constructing urinals, we are strengthening ownership, pride, and sustainability in rural education. We are pleased to share updates from our three active sites: Teteman, Baglo, and Akaa Quarters.

Teteman Community

At Teteman, the project is nearing completion. Together with the community, we have moulded blocks, laid the foundation, and uilt the urinal structure. The xext steps include plastering, painting, and handover to the school. The community’s support from teachers, parents, and young volunteers, has been remarkable. They have contributed materials and labour with a shared goal of improving their children’s learning environment.

Baglo Community (Baglo M/A JHS)

The Baglo Sanitation Project is also progressing steadily. To date, we have moulded all blocks, laid the foundation, and nearly pompleting block laying for the urinal structure. Plastering will begin soon after that. Although heavy rains caused slight delays, the team remains dedicated to completing and handing over the facility to Baglo M/A JHS in the coming weeks. This facility will greatly enhance hygiene, particularly for adolescent girls, and support school attendance throughout the year.

Akaa Quarters Basic School

Work at Akaa Quarters Basic School has also begun, with the community displaying exceptional commitment. So far, we have cleared and prepared the construction site, Moulded blocks with the help of community volunteers, and Laid the foundation for the school urinal. Next, our team will move into block laying and plastering. The Akaa community’s enthusiasm has been heartwarming, many residents have contributed sand, water, and labour, demonstrating the power of collective effort. Once completed, the new facility will serve hundreds of pupils, promoting cleanliness, safety, and dignity.

Community Involvement and Impact

Each project is rooted in community ownership. Locals provide essential resources and manpower, while Feminine Star Africa supplies materials like cement, pipes, and paint. This participatory model ensures long-term sustainability and teaches young people the importance of collective problem-solving. Improved sanitation directly translates into better health, school attendance, and academic focus particularly for girls who often miss school due to inadequate facilities.

We remain deeply thankful to all our donors, partners, and volunteers for their continued belief in this mission. Every block laid and every wall painted represents hope, dignity, and opportunity for rural children.

Together, we are not just building urinals, we are building healthier schools, stronger communities, and brighter futures.

Urinals For Three Community School Funded through the Little By Little Campaign

Community Engagement

Introduction

We are pleased to share an update on the progress of our School Sanitation Project, made possible through your generous support. This phase of the project is focused on improving sanitation facilities in three underserved schools: Akaa Quarters Basic School, Teteman R.C. JHS, and Baglo M.A. JHS.

Akaa Quarters Basic School

Since its establishment, Akaa Quarters Basic School has lacked a proper urinal facility, posing significant health and safety challenges to pupils, staff, and parents. A previous attempt to construct a temporary structure using palm fronds and roofing sheets was repeatedly damaged by wind and rain.

Thanks to your donations and their strong community collaboration, we have mobilized resources and construction is underway.

Teteman R.C. Junior High School

Teteman R.C. JHS is another beneficiary of the sanitation initiative. Preparatory work is ongoing, with the community actively participating in resource mobilization. Local resources are being identified, and we are coordinating the logistics needed to begin construction shortly. More updates will be shared as progress continues on-site in our next report.

Baglo M.A. Junior High School

At Baglo M.A. JHS, the original urinal structure had deteriorated significantly, forcing students to resort to nearby bushes, a practice that compromises hygiene and causes significant discomfort, especially for female students. Construction plans for a new, more resilient urinal facility are currently being finalized. Project support will include the provision of materials and skilled labor, with the community has contributed locally available resources. The intervention will greatly enhance the school environment and support the dignity and well-being of all students and teachers.

The projects are progressing steadily and simulteneously led my our team. We first had a community engagement led by the Municipal Chief Executive and our volunteers who met with the community leaders to ensure all resources are ready for work to commence. Next, the masons and community members including staff and pupils will work together on the project under our supervision. At the end of the project, we hope to provide a safe, durable, and hygienic facility that will benefit the entire school community.
