Dorcas is 16 years old, despite her youthful, shy smile. Her father died of HIV when she was very young. In February, she tragically and unexpectedly lost her mother during childbirth. "I have always helped my family take care of my younger siblings, but it is now even more important that I contribute." Children in Uganda too often have to grow up fast and take on responsibilities that far surpass their tender years. Full of pride, Dorcas speaks of her mother, "My mother was a 'business lady.' Every Friday she sold her paper bead jewelry at the market. In school, I enjoy studying commerce. I hope to be a 'business lady' like my mom was."
You can help. A $25 donation provides a monthly scholarship for a child. Consider giving the gift, the opportunity, of education to a child who would not otherwise have it.
