Feeding Milk from Nifty Cups
Feeding Milk from Nifty Cups

Dear Donors,

We would like to thank you all for the generous support for our Project “Saving Mothers and Babies with Innovative Tools”. Under this project, we are providing quality simulation-based healthcare training to the service providers. The objective of these sessions is to improve maternal and child health by providing high impact, low-cost training tools for health workers and facilities. In India, many mothers are not able to feed their children easily, neither by bottle nor with the help of spoon.

Therefore, a Nifty Feeding Cup; a reusable product for feeding breast milk to new-borns with breastfeeding difficulties is used. It is a small, soft feeding cup with tiny reservoir at its spout. It is an elegantly designed and inexpensive solution to a complex and all-too-common problem to feed nutritious breast milk to preterm infants and to babies who have issues breastfeeding due to cleft lip or palate.

The Concept of Nifty cup is really appreciable and this is one of the best tools for feeding babies in comparison to metal Paladai and bottle feeding- as said by Hospital Admnistration & NICU Head at Rainbow Children Hospital, Delhi after the training.

Like Rainbow Hospital of Delhi, many other hospitals like- Rose walk Healthcare, Delhi, Rainbow Hospital, Panipat, Rainbow Hospital, Agra have also encouraged the use of live-saving tools which are being promoted by HLFPPT. These hospitals got a detailed training for healthcare professionals to understand the use of Nifty Cups apart from other tools. This was conducted by HLFPPT with the help of donors who supported this social cause by donating us.

                                                  Voice from the Ground

Vinod  and Rani were blessed with a baby boy named Rishabh at Community Health Centre (CHC) Uska Bazar, Siddharth Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Initially, the mother was suffering from breast pain and swelling after the baby’s birth, due to which baby boy was not able to feed well. The doctor advised her to use Nifty Feeding Cups (A Life-Saving Tool) for the baby which is simple to use & easy to clean feeding solution which allows the infant to control the pace of feeding as well. Doctors have also sensitized the couple about how to use it. It should be positioned at a 45-degree angle to feed milk with the nifty cup.

The parents of the baby accepted the doctor’s advice and were provided with Nifty Cup free of cost. This all happened just because of the immense support HLFPPT received from the Donors like you for our project. HLFPPT is promoting the Life-Saving Tools in rural India to save two lives at a time, one is of Mother and Second is Child. Not just this, it also adds an extra smile to the face of the Father and Family. After getting the Cup, both of them are very satisfied to see their baby getting fed well with nifty cup and thanked the Donors who helped them to access the product. Though the mother could not breastfeed, she feels elated that at least nifty cup is fulfilling the hunger of her baby. The Parents of this baby are thankful to this small yet so useful product for feeding their baby.

This could not be possible without your support towards helping us for feeding many children like Rishabh. In Rural villages of India, there are a lot of children still struggling with proper feeding in order to live a healthy life, all of which requires your kind support and gratitude. Your small donation towards this project will help us to train the Healthcare Professionals and also to provide free aids to the children.  Nifty Cups is the most affordable solution and also very economical which helps infants to feed properly. Also, it would provide innovative life-saving medical tools to facilities in low-resource settings to enhance their care.

To support the cause, click here  to donate online. At this dedicated page, we have customised the list of “how worth your donations” will be. This value list will help you to understand the initiative and also will help you to choose the correct amount for donation.

Dear Donors,

We would like to thank our donors for the generous support for the Project “Saving Mothers and Babies with Innovative Tools”. Under this, we are providing quality simulation-based healthcare training to service providers. The objective of these sessions is to improve maternal and child health by providing high impact, low-cost training tools for health workers and facilities.

The simulation-based training of innovative tools is essential, effective and required for saving lives at birth. High-quality simulation can substitute up to 50 % of clinical hours in pre-service nursing education.

Training was conducted for nursing students in Pushpanjali Nursing College, Agra, UP with your support. In the training, demonstrations on complex birth scenarios and newborn resuscitation were done. These demonstrations were done with the help of innovative tools like MamaNatalie, Neonatalie, Penguin Suction etc. A total of 35 students were trained.

Rani, a nursing student shared that this kind of training are very important for us as it provides real-time and hands-on training. It prepares us for handling the patients and difficult situations in advance.

Priya, another nursing student shared that we had not only learned but also applied the knowledge to handle complex baby delivery. It is a very effective way of learning.

There is a need to train and equip these Health service providers with these lifesaving tools so that improved care can be delivered and better health outcomes would lead.

Training with Mama Breast
Training with Mama Breast

In India, as per the National Family Health Survey(NFHS)-4 (2015-16), only 41.6% children under three years were breastfed within one hour of birth while only 54.9% children were exclusively breastfed until six months.

Breastfeeding is a cornerstone for child survival and health especially during early life because it provides essential irreplaceable nutrition for a child’s growth and development. It serves as a child’s first immunization - providing protection from common childhood illnesses, such as diarrhoea and pneumonia, few of the leading causes of under-five mortality in WHO’s South-East Asia Region. Breast milk promotes sensory and cognitive development and is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants; it is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers. Breastfeeding should be done in a right way.

To address this issue, HLFPPT organizes community sessions to promote breastfeeding at regular intervals. One of such session was organized in our Centre of Excellence (COE)- District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) which provides healthcare services to babies and children aged 0-6 years of age. The information about Exclusive Breastfeeding, importance of first milk (Colostrum),Nutritional value of breastmilketcwas shared in the session. The session was conducted by giving demonstration of breastfeeding by using Mama Breast mannequin. Mama Breast is an excellent tool to use in the Essential Care for Every Baby training, Essential Care for Small Babies training and programs on Breastfeeding training, Kangaroo Mother Care Training and many more. Parents and Health Service Providers learnt about Breastfeeding with a wearable simulator that allows training for highly realistic simulation of breast feeding and breast milk expression.

This could not be possible without your support. Thank you for your generous support for generating awareness on Breastfeeding. It will save many lives. Many children will get proper nutrition through Breast milk. We had just shared the information to a few bunches of people. There are still thousands of mothers left who don’t know the importance of breastfeeding or doing it in a wrong way. We need your support for training them and saving many more lives.

Healthy Baby Samita
Healthy Baby Samita

Greetings from HLFPPT!

Every mother faces the problem of infant’s nose blockage due to overproduction of mucus. This blockage can interferes with his ability to comfortably eat and breathe at this time. Suctioning is necessary in this condition to help baby breathe and feed comfortably. There are certain solutions available medically but it is not accessible by the poor parents. HLFPPT is making this solutions available for the underserved population. Penguin Newborn suction is the innovative tool that helps clearing baby’s airway. This tool is easy to clean, have transparent body and attractive for the newborn.

Samita, born at PGI hospital Lucknow, was crying with a terrible cough and fever. Analysing the problem, doctors examined that the baby had too much mucus, which was making hard for her to eat and breathe. The parents were then advised to use the ‘Penguin Newborn Suction’ to remove fluids from a newborn’s nasal and oral cavities. After daily usage of the tool, parents found their baby girl smiling, giggling and laughing with a clear chest and having her proper meals for the day.

We are working continuously to support poor parents for accessing different innovative tools to make their baby happy and healthy.

Thank you so much for standing with HLFPPT. It could not be possible without your support. These Innovative tools are the need of the time. We are also incredibly grateful to you and to all our donors who continue to support the vital work we are doing. But we are falling short of funds to help more poor newborns. Thus, we seek your constant support.

We look forward to your increased generous contributions

Stay tuned to our GlobalGiving reports and social media through the year for the latest news.

We would like to thank our donors for the generous support for the Project of Saving Mothers and Babies with Innovative Tools. Under this we are providing quality simulation-based healthcare training to service providers. Also, innovative life-saving medical tools would be provided to facilities in low-resource settings to enhance their quality of service delivery.

These Lifesaving Medical tools can help to save babies in the first golden minute. When a baby is born, he or she should begin breathing within the “Golden Minute,” their first 60 seconds outside of the womb. Most babies do begin breathing on their own. 10 million babies worldwide, however, may need varying degree of assistance. Opportunity lost to provide needed assistance at this time would be a crucial impediment for saving these babies. It contributes to about 23% of neonatal deaths! In India there are one million neonatal deaths every year, representing about a quarter of all global neonatal deaths. Impact of birth asphyxia on childhood mortality is thus substantial. The mother who trusts that she will receive the best possible care expects that her providers have been fully prepared for the 1% risk.

Many of these infants could be saved if a skilled health provider at neonatal resuscitation is present during labor and childbirth. Giving birth without a skilled birth attendant leaves both mothers and newborns without the specialized medical care that’s most critical when their lives are at greatest risk.

Through our innovative, affordable solutions for newborn resuscitation, we are putting our efforts to train and equip birth attendants to become efficient lifesafers. These lifesafers would help babbies to breathe in the golden minute. It can reduce infant mortality in the country.

This Project will develop an efficient, cost effective and sustainable. This would be a key resource for improving neonatal resuscitation practices in the country.

We are grateful to all our donors who supported in the vital work we are doing. As since last quarter, we are running short of funds, we need your support to save babies at the golden minute.
