Apolinar's Wren at Lake Tota (15.3.2020)
Apolinar's Wren at Lake Tota (15.3.2020)

Dear donors & followers of project SueTy,

These Covid-19 days are tough for many worldwide, in many ways. A positive perspective for us in this project though, is to confirm how valuable is to understand the connection between habitat & biodiversity loss -among other factors-, to the spread of this pandemic problems. Therefore it confirms the importance to carry on and improve actions to be more and more empathetic with our environment.

And of course, this also strenghten our goals with project SueTy, and our gratitude with your support!

From previous weeks (pre-C19) and also coping with current isolation, quarentine and all that slow-motion meassures taken everywere (and our country Colombia is not an excemption on all that), we are active on improving our booklet initiative, also on publishing a number of posts on social media and sites, aiming to raise awareness to the importance of our bird species on focus with SueTy (Apolinar's Wren).

We have linked those with our umbrella project called 'Cistotapolinari', and have organised them in a variety of publications that we want to share with you, in a hope of your interest to explore a few of them and give us some feedback:

Thank you for your valuable support to project SueTy and Fundación Montecito! We look forward for your continued engagement.

With warm regards, wishing you all to remain safe and healthy,
Felipe Velasco + Fundación Montecito team

PS.- These following pics are some memories of the pre-C19 moments lived and shared with our local community and children of the Guáquira's Village, next to Lake Tota, the area of our project's goals.

Disclaimer: All photos are owned by Fundación Montecito. And for those including children, when we started this project we made a written request for parents at the school of Guáquira to authorise its use for the purpose of our projects linked to them, they all have agreed on that.

Dear Donors | Apreciados Donantes,

As part of our educational approach with project SueTy, we have bird drawings and illustrations to enrich transmedia sources. We are now preparing material to later share with children in the school of Guàquira, and instruct them with basic technics for that, as means to get closer to birdlife awareness and appreciation.

Meanwhile, we would truly appreciate if you could share about our project with others, thank you!

Dear Donors,

We are working on preparation of our booklet for the project, to be followed with children along and facilitate a proper fulfilment of our planned timeline. Topic 1 contents are in our priorities now, and others will follow.

Juanita & Sophie

Besides, an Apolinar’s Wren poster design to be shown permanently in the school, and quotation of percussion instruments, are also part of our activities these days. In a few weeks school will start, and our project with them soon after.

Greetings / Saludos,
Felipe Velasco + Fundación Montecito team

Dear Donors,

This report is to inform you that we will start with SueTy's timeline by mid February. We are already working on outlining our main steps towards our goal, and soon after the school opens we'll start to develop the program.

I take this opportunity to inform also about our donations and matching funding balance so far:

  • Donations received through GlobalGiving, up to 13th/Jan 11:59pm ET: $5,650 (85 donations).
Note: Our Accelerator challenge within GlobalGiving ended up on 31st/Dec 11:59 pm ET with: $5,359 raised from 72 donors, meaning we were able to overcome with that challenge and its minimums of $5,000 from 40 donors, thus being able to remain active on this platform not only for project SueTy but also for new projects from now on. Thank you all for making this possible! (see: Press Release).
  • Donations received outside GlobalGiving through bank deposits for SueTy: $195 (3 donations).
  • Matching funds offered by The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF, nl), to be received by July 2020: $5,000 (this funding is meant to support our NGO's work in general, but we want to direct it towards project SueTy as a priority for us now).
Note: This generous offer was possible thanks to their prior support given to a recent project also related with this bird conservation by complementary activities in the field and community work. Some details related can be read here.

According to that balance, we are still in need of a minimum $3,275 to fully cover our total budget. We are envisioning that, by covering this soon we will be able to upgrade our aim with this project by developing a wetland culture festival* either by the end of this year or commencing next, to increase the scope of SueTy in our region and provide the conditions to more progress with those educational purposes, in the years to come.

*First draft for the festival budget is ~ $8,000 and, this is something we will tell you about later in more detail, according to new results in our fundraising during the following weeks or months.

Wishing you all a fantastic year 2020!
Felipe + Fundación Montecito team

PS.- Only 98 out of a total 705 organisations and projects were able to overcome the Dec/2019 Accelerator (see: GG's press release here, featuring one quote from us!).

Apreciados Donantes,

Dear donors,

We are slowly getting there, but we need your final help, please. Deadline for reaching the minimum fundraising of $ 5,000 in our project SueTy, is this 31st/Dec, so it's coming fast! And we are still struggling for it.

That minimum is compulsory for us to become members of GlobalGiving and, with it for the project to remain active and able to fundraise its total budget later on ($ 14,120).

I kindly invite you to engage this last bit with our project and goals. Please help us by sharing the project and a request for donations to only 3 key people that you believe they could have the chance for a generous donation, and I am positive we will reach that minimum quite well, with your support.

For this sharing purpose, besides the project link in itself (http://goto.gg/43861), please feel free to use our newest video which contains an opinion about the project from a local inhabitant at Lake Tota's region, who with humility he speaks out of the potential importance of developing SueTy in our territory - see the video here: https://youtu.be/xBKJg3TWYm0

With gratitude,
Felipe Velasco

Estimados donantes,

Felipe Velasco
