Rescue trafficked women & children in India

Thank you for your help in providing children and women with a day of safety from India's red-light distrticts. Your gift is making a tremendous difference in the lives of women and children trapped in a life of sexual slavery. Over the past few months, 99 women and 169 children residing in the brothels were helped through various programs.

You gift is helping girls like Ani*. Everyone in the safe home affectionately calls Ani the “fair angel.” She’s a cute little girl adored by her house parents and sisters, other girls rescued from the brothels. It’s hard to imagine that a sweet and kind angel like Ani grew up in such a harsh and abusive environment—the red-light district.

“When was I was at my home, my mother and father were doing bad things, saying bad words to me, and drinking bad things,” says 7-year-old Ani.

This was her life but not anymore. Thanks to you, Ani lives in a loving home far away from the red-light districts. She has a safe place to sleep, play and learn. Your gift provides for her basic needs.

“I like living here because I like to study,” says the bubbly Ani. She’s an excellent student who goes to one of the best schools in the area. In the safe home, she receives extra tutoring lessons, which help her to excel even more in school.

Her life wasn’t always like this. She used to live in a place surrounded by a lot bad people who hurt her mother. Ani’s mother is a victim of sex trafficking and still works every night in the brothels. It wasn’t safe. Ani didn’t sleep well, and she barely had room to stand. She said it was like living in a tiny box. She wanted a better home.

Today, Ani is happy to have a big space where she can sleep, learn and play. Your gift rescues children like her and gives them hope for a brighter future. Please consider giving again so more children like Ani will get the help that they need.

The women and children have benefited from safe houses, counseling, pre schools, remedial classes, medical interventions, feeding programs, fun clubs, and weekly gatherings.

Your gift is helping women like Jaya find freedom from sexual slavery.

Jaya was married off at a young age and when her husband died she didn't know what to do. Her neighbor promised her a good job in the city so she went with the man, but she soon realized that she was deceived. Her neighbor sold her to another man and she was forced to work in the red-light districts as a sex worker. Jaya soon became pregnant and her life was challenging. Customers would abuse her and the man she lived with would also hurt her if she didn’t bring home enough money.

It took several years for Jaya to trust our staff. They encouraged and counseled her about her child and her safety. They frequently helped her at the weekly medical clinics and monitored her health because she was at risk of contracting HIV. After much encouragement to leave the trade, Jaya finally left. She is now living in safe house and her child is also safe.

This summer some of the girls in the safe house got a chance to attend a summer camp. After finishing their final exams in school, this was a fun way to spend their break. All the girls are very studious throughout the year and this was a fun way to relax after a rigorous school year. All the girls performed very well on their final exams and were promoted to the next class with excellent grades.

The girls enjoyed the camp so much and made some great friends along the way. The girls also got a chance to enjoy some time at a nearby water park. The children living in the safe house are daughters of sex workers in India, and they are all grateful for the opportunity to live in a better environment and pursue after an education

Your gift has helped many children in the red-light districts by giving them a free pre-school education and a nutritious meal every day. Children like Alok are doing so well because of your gift.

Alok's mother was a victim of the sex trade in Mumbai. She is a sex worker, so her son is forced to live in the dangerous and dirty brothels. Alok is a talkative and active 5-year-old boy. He used to roam the streets with nothing to do. After encouraging Alok's mother to put Alok in our pre-school program (called a balwadi in Hindi), he is doing so much better. Alok is also getting a nutritious meal every day. He is very smart in his studies and his behavior has improved greatly. Alok enjoys participating in special school activities and events.

Seeing the changes in Alok, his mother enrolled his younger brother in the balwadi (pre-school program) too and is very happy with the development of both her children.
