Rescue trafficked women & children in India

Education is so important for every child. Since the children of commercial sex workers do not have access to proper education, the schools that we established in the red-light districts are a big blessing for them. In the past quarter, about 90 children were able to receive an education in the pre-schools or local primary schools.

The children receive extra academic assistance for any of their classes. Many have shown great improvements in their grades after getting this extra help. 

Your gift has helped many children and one of the most important things it provides is a safe home far from the red-light districts. Children like Rimpa now have promising futures ahead of them because of your gift.

She used to watch pimps beat her mother regularly. Rimpa felt so sad living in Mumbai’s red light districts. It was a very dangerous place. The abuse—and exploitation—Rimpa constantly witnessed was terrible. When her mother was trafficked into the sex trade, seven-year old Rimpa became an innocent victim of the vile sex industry in India.

But now Rimpa is living in a better place. “I feel so safe at the safe house,” says Rimpa, who receives food, shelter and a quality education every day. She knows how to read, write, and speak in English. She’s very grateful she gets to live in a safe place. Thank you for helping children stuck in the sex trade!

This past quarter, 90 trafficked women and 79 children residing in Mumbai’s red light districts have been helped.

The women and children have benefited from counseling, pre-primary classes, and medical interventions. Many women and their children are very susceptible to contracting diseases like HIV/AIDS and other STDs. Your support provides services like medical care and helps women and children get tested to receive any necessary medications or treatment. (In the photo above, women are learning about good nutrition).

Shabana is a woman who has been helped because of people like you. Shabana got pulled into the sex trade at the age of 13. She ran away from home because she could no longer tolerate the abuse by her family. But she didn't realize she would end up in a far worse living situation. Shabana started working in the red-light districts and soon contracted HIV.

When she gave birth to her daughter, Ayesha, the baby also contracted the disease. Shabana was not taking any medicine for the HIV disease and she became very weak. She gave up on life and couldn't care for her baby. However, after getting some counseling, Shabana's attitude started to change.

She started taking the medication to help her body feel better. Her daughter was also taken care of. Today, Shabana's health is impoved and she is living in a better place for her and her child. She has made a lot of progress and is looking for a new and different job to support her and her daughter.

This past quarter, trafficked women and their children received physical and emotional support that has truly benefited their lives. Through counseling, pre-primary and remedial classes, medical interventions, feeding programs, fun clubs, and weekly gatherings, 383 trafficked women and 201 children residing in Mumbai’s red light districts have been helped. The women living in the red light districts yearn for hope and freedom and have expressed a desire for their children to be safe.

Soni is a 5-year-old girl whose life has been transformed thanks to donors like you. Soni lived in the red light district because her mother was sold into the sex trade. Wanting a better life for her daughter, Soni’s mother approached our staff about giving Soni a safe place to live. Soni was welcomed to Anandalay, our safe house for girls, and quickly made friends with the other girls.

Normally there is a period of adjustment but Soni never cried and got adjusted to her new environment immediately. She is very interactive, obedient, and exhibits a maturity way beyond her age. With encouragement and love from the house parents and other children, Soni is showing significant progress and we are excited that she has a bright future ahead of her.
