Your donation saves lives - meet Gilby and Stella

Gilby after his eye infection had cleared
Gilby after his eye infection had cleared

It's already time for another project report from TOLFA, and we are excited to tell you about what we have been doing with your donation. With about 500 animals under our care every day your support is so important and helps us achieve some amazing recoveries. Here are just two incredible stories.

Gilby

When Gilby was rescued from nearby Ajmer he had tumours all over his body and had developed a painful eye infection as well. Luckily, we were called to take him in and we immediately began treatment on the tumours and his infected eye. This photo was taken just 10 days after he was admitted and shows that his eye infection has all cleared up and most of his tumours are now reduced or gone entirely, which is a great result! Gilby will stay with us for a while longer to make sure all the tumours have gone and to build up his general body condition. He can then be sterilised and vaccinated and go back to his territory and doggy family.

Stella

Sweet girl Stella was rescued in the middle of the night with the most terrible head wound. Nearly the whole of her head was swollen with the maggots that were buried inside. Despite the pain she must have been in, she was still happy to greet people with a wagging tail. The wound was probably caused by an over-zealous mate during the breeding season and subsequently became infected and then infested with maggots. After all the maggots were removed and the wound thoroughly cleaned Stella was given pain relief and antibiotics. After only three weeks she was ready for sterilization and rabies vaccination and after six weeks she was ready to go home. In the photo she is just before release with TOLFA staff member Golu. Being sterilised means that she will no longer be hounded by an ardent male dog and therefore unlikely to get involved in any further fighting.

Rachel wins Vet Nurse of the Year

We're thrilled to let you know that Rachel won Vet Nurse of the Year at the recent Ceva Animal Welfare Awards. Rachel is a British veterinary nurse who spent eight years travelling the world and volunteering at animal sanctuaries and rescue centres before setting up TOLFA in the state of Rajasthan, India in 2005. It is great to receive such recognition for our charity that is doing so much great work for animals in need. Congratulations Rachel!

Upcoming Microproject on GlobalGiving

Please keep your eyes peeled for a new microproject to be launched soon! The road outside TOLFA is becoming a main highway and that means there is a lot more traffic passing by. We need to redevelop the entrance of TOLFA to keep our shelter dogs safe from the busy road and provide greater security for our hospital. Our microproject to Keep Our Dogs Safe will be launched in conjunction with GlobalGiving's upcoming Paws & Claws Fund Matching Day for animal charities on 22nd May. On this day donations of up to $500 will be matched by 30% making your gift go even further. Watch out for further information.

Thank you for your continued support!
