Wisskerz the Cat.

Graham's Beautiful Eyes
The cat formerly known as Wisskerz was rescued by NBCR from our local city shelter where he was turned in as a stray with severe injuries. He was unable to stand or walk, or use his rear legs at all, although he could feel pain. It was determined that there was either severe trauma to his pelvis and/or to one or both of his rear legs, likely due to being hit by a car. Indeed xrays revealed Wisskerz needed an FHO surgery (femoral head ostectomy), or the pelvis and leg would heal improperly over time and he would not be able to walk properly and would not have full use of his rear leg.
One of our awesome NBCR fosters felt her heart strings being pulled and she took him in. She decided the first line of order was to rename Wisskerz. She believed he needed a more serious (and respectable) name since he had a serious uphill battle ahead. She decided on Graham.
Graham was set up for his FHO surgery in hopes it would be completely successful. When he went to the vet for his initial exam, the vet determined he was too thin and too weak for this type of surgery. Graham was sent home to put on some weight and become a little stronger. It was slow going. Graham just didn't feel well. A week or so later, while resting up and gaining weight, the foster mom noticed oozing from his tail area. She discovered that Graham had an abscess that was undetected until it ruptured. Once the abscess ruptured you could almost immediately see the change in attitude. He felt better, he was trying to stand, he was meowing for his food - all great signs!! After a round of antibiotics we scheduled Graham's surgery - at last!
It was an involved surgery and the vet was somewhat worried about nerve damage. If Graham did not start trying to use his leg in a matter of time the leg may need to be amputated. This was a sad option we really did not want for him after putting him through one major surgery already. Fortunately Graham DID begin placing his paw and leg and bearing a little weight on it! As time went on he continued to improve. Now, 2 months after his initial rescue, he is available for adoption! Graham is a real sweetheart of a cat, and has a little kitten still left in him. He enjoys playing with tinsel balls and toy mice, and loves attention from his humans. He runs, jumps and pounces like nothing ever happened. He will purr in gratitude for an ear rub, and for all the love he has received he gives it back 100 times in return.
Fortunately, thanks to donations like yours we are able to help out these special needs cats like Graham. Without your donations, and due to the cost of his surgery, Graham would very likely not be picked up by rescue and therefore would be euthanized.
Thank you for your generosity.
