Once in a while there is a cat whose situation is so dire, New Beginnings Cat Rescue is their only hope. Such was the case in which we found “Cathy”. Though she had multiple issues, the animal shelter personnel knew she was worth saving. This is how her rescue began.
We pulled a cat from the local animal shelter who was described as an "8 yr. old female with vestibular syndrome caused by ear mites". Her photo and description tugged at our heartstrings and we arranged to pull her and get her the help she needed.
To our surprise, 'she' was actually a 'he'! He also had a large abscess on his neck causing his head to lean over, no ear mites whatsoever. His injury was making it difficult for him to eat and he was quite thin - he was in a lot of pain and discomfort.
The abscess had to be cleaned and drained by the veterinarian; however, due to the extent of the injury, the decision was made to install a drain tube. He had the drain tube in for 5 days and once it was removed, his healing progress slowly but surely began. We named him Chance because, well, it seemed to fit him ;)
Throughout his recovery and with a lot of TLC, he started to show more and more of his personality. Every day he improved more, but some complications were surfacing along the way. His foster mom went the extra mile to make sure he was attended to 24-7. She even got him certified to travel on a plane so she could take him along on a family reunion trip from Texas to South Carolina!
Chance has continued to improve since we rescued him in June. There is a chance (no pun intended) he will have to have one of his ear canals removed as he has infection and drainage coming from it and is likely causing his quirky head tilt. We don't know how his injuries happened but we do know he has been through - and is still going through - a lot to get back to normalcy. His veterinary care is ongoing and your donations would ensure we are able to provide for him - and to allow us to continue rescuing more cats like Chance. We appreciate your ongoing support of New Beginnings Cat Rescue.
