Survival Relief package for Chennai flood families

Around 2400 families affected by Chennai Floods in December 2015, have been helped from January 2016 with relief and rehablitation schemes because of help from many Friends through GlobalGiving. 

Now, specific appeals have come for the following:

1) 750 school Children need note books, pens, pencils, scales, goemetric boxes, school bags, water bottles, snacks boxes. Your help of $ 10 and above will be needed per child.

2) 30 unemployed Women whose livelihoods have been destroyed by Chennai floods needs sewing machines to do tailoring jobs. Your help of $ 200 per Women is solicited. 

3) 20 unemployed Youth want to learn musical instruments and join the bands for earning regular incomes. They request help of $ 250 for each one of them. 

VOICE Trust appeals to Friends to please make donations for Project # 22671 through GlobalGiving.

Under Project Number 22671, families affected by Chennai Floods in December 2015 are helped by Friends through Global Giving. First, we provided emergency relief. Later, we gave them rehabilitation schemes. Then, we took up educational supports.

When we informed them that INR 12278.29 (Indian Rupees twelve thousand two hundred seventy-eight and paise twenty-nine) is available for next activities, they told us that VOICE Trust can use this amount for emergency relief to Gaja Cyclone affected people in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Thanjavur Districts.

VOICE Trust has decided to work in 24 villages affected by Gaja Cyclone that came on November 16, 2018.So far, 60 people have died. 30, 00, 000 have lost houses and livelihoods. Over 90% of trees have been uprooted. Massive devastation indeed. Appeals gave through Global Giving under Project Number 37260.

On November 25, 2018, 120 families in Periyathikottai hamlet of Mutthupettai in Thanjavur District were given food, biscuits, bread, groceries, sanitary napkins, mosquito coils, water cans with help from Global Giving amount and also donations from VOICE friends. On December 8, 2018, 293 families in Kottur in Tiruvarur District were given emergency relief materials with help from Apex Pon Vidyashram Groups, Management, Staff and Students and also other friends of VOICE. True, many more needs are there for Chennai flood families like tailoring machines for Women, musical instruments for youths and educational supports for Children. But, now the priorities are for Kerala Floods and Gaja Cyclone victims of Tamil Nadu.  Still, VOICE Trust will work with friends and Global Giving to continue empowerments in Chennai Flood affected areas.

Because of many helps from Friends through GlobalGiving, VOICE Trust joined with local organizations to extend emergency relief for the street dwelling families of Ekkaduthangal, Manali, Velachery, Tambaram areas . During 2017 , educational supports for some school children were extended. But, many school children in flood affected families need, note books, guide books, school bags, water bottles and other such educational supports.

Also, the poverty families in slums want educational supports and livelihood schemes. The unemployed youth who have taken to cultural activities through Kalaipattarai  want musical instruments.

Your supports in the past had helped many flood affected families. VOICE Trust renews the request to all for continuing supports through GlobalGiving.

It has been 2 Years and 3months after the disaster of Chennai Floods in December 2015. Thanks to the supports by friends like you through Global Giving, VOICE Trust got help from Global Giving to extend relief and rehabilitation to daily wage families of Ekkatuthangal, Manali, Velachery and Tambaram.

After emergency relief, educational supports for school children, environment Tuition Classes are followed by Kalai Pattarai, the local partner(Photos attached).

Your help is requested for providing of note books and guide book to school children of Chennai flood families. It will be a big support for the families of daily wages workers. Some Women also want tailoring, Youth want musical instruments. Kindly help when you can.
