VOICE Trust will provide relief packages consisting of Rice, Groceries, Vessels, Beddings, Sanitary Napkins for bringing back normalcy to daily wage families in Chennai like Napalayam and Andarkuppam around Manali in north Chennai and Velacherry and Tambaram in south Chennai. These families need such packages for sheer survival. For, they have lost all their belongings in Chennai floods during intermittent rains of November-December 2015.
Chennai faced continuous rains from 29th November to 2nd December. That was heavy rainfall and the lakes breached and flooded the habitations in most part of Chennai city. People have lost their houses, they stand in road and the only property they have are the clothes they wear. The people selected for emergency aid from donors through Global Giving are daily wage families. They need relief package to survive, to regroup their energies and to re-build their life.
VOICE Team stood with the flood affected people and helped to save them to safe places from the fury of flood devastation. Now is the time to provide food materials and vessels for cooking food to support their health with nutrition. Providing bedding materials makes them to return to normal sleep. Sanitary Napkins and first aid medical kit helps family members to regain good health. Repairs to roofs will save them from further rains. Rebuilding of damaged houses will lead to return to jobs.
Clearing the water ways during the summer and cleaning the house surroundings by removing the heaps of waste materials will allow water flow to reach the bigger water bodies without causing damages to houses. Though the present concern of this project with help from donors through Global Giving is for emergency relief package for survival of flood affected people of Chennai, still, the long term impact will be to care for free flow of water in lakes and other water bodies.
