Vigía del Fuerte is a town located in Urabá Antioqueño, Colombia, it has a little lane called Arenal, It is located 3 hours and a half from Quibdó (capital of Choco), it is one of the most importante population in te Colombian Pacific Region, and you can access only by river. It characteristics because is an area with different violence and economic problems, for that reasons many families are poor and they can´t cover their basic needs. We did a project since last year to help children and young people that were immersed in the armed conflict.
The children of Arenal received their classes in a little room for more than four years, before our intervention, because some years ago a tree fell on the school during a thunderstorm, and it destroyed the classrooms. We wanted to improve the location´s quality. Our principle objetive was that the school works without problems and the locations were in a good state, where the children are safe and they can enjoy their space. We have achieved differents things. Currently, the school has new roofs, wooden paths and it has been painted and clean up, the bathroom and the dining room were reconstructed and the teacher´s room was improved, they can prepare their classes in a space more confortable. We had the support from the community and different donnors, for that reason we could helped them. Young people from the community have taken over of this situation and they moved and transported the materials from Quibdó to Arenal, also they cleaned, painted, changed the ceilings and organized the space for children. They managed to adapt the school with new colors, ceilings, access roads and desks, so that children and their families find a confortable place.
We are close to achieve our goal because our principal goal was to receive $2.000 USD. From the Global Giving donors we have received $100 USD and from other external donors we have received $1150 USD. We consider that our school is in good conditions and the details can improve with the support of the community.
With your donation, we improved the school and students and teacher are very happy. THANK YOU
