Arenal is a village in the municipality of Vigía del Fuerte, located in Urabá Antioqueño, Colombia. It is located 3 hours and a half from Quibdó (capital of Choco), and its only access is by River. It is an area hit by violence with an economic situation that does not allow many families to cover their basic needs.
For more than four years, the children of Arenal, received their classes in a community room, after the affectations suffered by the fall of a tree on the school.
The principal objetive is thatt he school works without problems, we need to: change roofs, clean up, paint the room, make wooden paths that facilitate the entry. Transform the bathroom, dining room and improve the teachers room. If we raise the necessary funds for the materials, the community can help to rebuild and adapt the school. Our goal is to receive $2.000 USD. From the Global Giving donors we have received $50 USD and from other external donors we have received $720 USD.
The community, under the leadership of the young people of the territory, organized to move the materials from Quibdó to Arenal, clean, paint, change the ceilings and organize the space for children to resume their school classes there. We have managed to adapt the school with new colors, ceilings, access roads and desks, so that children and their families find a decent space.
With your input, we are making progress in adapting the school and we will continue to receive your support for the provision of the space. THANK YOU
