Reconstruction and Adequacy of Rural School

Vigía del Fuerte is located in Urabá Antioqueño, Colombia, it has a little town: Arenal, It is located 3 hours and a half from Quibdó (capital of Choco), and its only access is by River. It is an area with different violence and economic problems, for that reasons many families can´t cover their basic needs. We did a project since last year to help in our national process of post-conflict. 

Befores that we help with the reconstruction of this school. The children of Arenal received their classes in a community room for more than four years, because a tree fell on the school in a thunderstorm, until we decided to participate with this project to improve the location´s quality. Our principle objetive was that the school works without problems, where the children are safe and they can enjoy their space. We have achieved differents things: Now, the school has new roofs,wooden paths and it has been painted and clean up, the bathroom and the dining room were transformed and the teacher´s room was improved. We have had the support from the community and different donnors, for that reason we have helped them. Young people from the community are leader and they have moved and transported the materials from Quibdó to Arenal, also they have cleaned, painted, changed the ceilings and organized the space for children. They have managed to adapt the school with new colors, ceilings, access roads and desks, so that children and their families find a confortable place. 

We are close to achieve our goal because our principal goal was to receive $2.000 USD. From the Global Giving donors we have received $50 USD and from other external donors we have received $1130 USD.  We consider that our school is in good conditions and the details can improve with the support of the community.
