EBONYIDA FOUNDATION
REPORT OF THE IMPLEMETATION OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES PROGRAM FOR 50/250 PUPILS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS HELD ON THE 16TH OF OCTOBER AND 4TH NOVEMBER 2020
A quality basic education gives children and youth the knowledge and skills they need to face daily life challenges, and take advantage of economic and lifelong learning opportunities. It is also a key driver for reducing poverty, fostering economic growth, achieving gender equality and social development which is one major goal of Ebonyida Foundation in execution of this event.
EbonyIda Foundation school supplies event was planned for 50 under privilege children in Edo state Nigeria. However due to the high number of pupils that lack basic school supplies from the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, the number of recipients changed from 50 to 250. The 250 under privilege students received school supplies which included books, uniforms, school shoes, backpacks and writing materials.
BENEFITIARY SCHOOLS
With the authorization of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), five public primary schools within Benin-City metropolitan area were carefully selected to benefit from the Ebonyida Foundation support. The schools are:
SELECTION OF BENEFITIARY
Selection of beneficiaries was done by working with the head of schools (Head Mistress/Head Master) who know every pupil and their pre-existing constraints to basic school supplies. EbonyIda Foundation’s staff interviewed the selected pupils to ascertain their poverty score and determine if they are best fit for the benefits. Visits were conducted with the parents of the selected schools to ascertain poverty level and also capture bio data.
EVENT TIMELINE
The Ebonyida Foundation project preparation started in July 2020 and was affected by the nationwide lockdown imposed by government to reduce the spread of Covid 19. Because of the government lock down, the school supplies was not distributed until October 16 through November 4, 2020. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TRAINING CENTER
The Ebonyida Foundation has recently opened a training center in Benin City for the youth which will prepare the attendees with a trade. This training center will operate all year and the yearly donation of school supplies will continue by the foundation.
SUMMARY:
The beneficiaries were very happy while expressing their profound gratitude to the foundation and all donors for the gifts they received. During the event, there were kids who come to school without books, backpacks, good uniforms and writing material in which their needs were fulfilled by the Ebonyida foundation. The Director of Education was personally on ground to witness the school supply distribution at Adesuwa Primary school and also expressed her gratitude to the foundation for the philanthropic gestures.
