Hello there,
Thank you again for donating to this project and for helping us combat the risks COVID-19 poses to our community.
We wanted to give you a quick update on the situation on the ground in Cambodia. It is with regret we inform you that after nearly a year of relatively low cases of Cambodia, the country is currently experiencing a significant outbreak.
COVID 19 was detected in several people after four women reportedly bribed their way out of mandatory hotel quarantine on entering Cambodia on February 20th.
As of April 12th, there have been 4,238 cases detected in Cambodia, with 3,705 of these linked to the February 20th event. 29 deaths have been recorded so far. Before February, there were under 500 total cases reported in almost a year since the beginning of the pandemic.
On March 21st it was unfortunately found that six people had tested positive for COVID 19 in the CCF community, including an 81-year-old grandmother and a 2-month-old baby. They were living in Domnak Thom village, near the CCF dental clinic. They tested positive after indirect contact with a Cintri worker, who also lived in the area, who tested positive when visiting his home province earlier in the week. At the time the six people tested positive, they had been contact-traced by the Ministry of Health and were under quarantine at home with 18 other families. All six people have been taken to The Grand Duke Hotel - which has been refurbished as a COVID 19 specialist unit - for treatment.
The community we serve is Steung Meanchey, an impoverished community just outside Phnom Penh. With increased cases within recent days, as of April 11th, all of Steung Meanchey was placed under lockdown for two weeks (along with a few other locations in the city). This includes the CCF community and facilities. CCF staff from the CR team have received written authorization from the government to still access these areas and provide our support to the people there.
Over the past year, schools have opened and closed often in Cambodia depending on the risk, and our staff has quickly adjusted, developing take-home learning solutions, and continue to provide equipment like hand sanitizer, soap, and masks to protect our community.
Borders have closed again; there are no buyers for our families who use garbage picking as a main source of income to sell the recyclables.
We will continue to respond to the needs of our community, and the support from donors like you helps make this possible.

Thanks again for all your support, and we hope you are well and healthy.
Sincerely,
All of us at CCF
