The project aims to provide quality primary education to nearly 1,000 underprivileged children in urban poverty. CCF supports access to public schools (half-day) and complements it with a half-day program at community schools. Students benefit from full-time learning, leadership and self-esteem activities, team sports, and access to libraries, computer labs, clean water, and toilets. Families also receive food, subsidized rice, and water support at these school hubs.
Steung Meanchey, once a major disposal site for chemical companies, hospitals, and industries, was one of Southeast Asia's largest and most toxic dumps. Families scavenging there faced violence, abuse, trafficking, disease, and lacked food, clean water, healthcare, and education. These hardships exclude them from most aid. Financial struggles force children to work, making school a luxury families cannot afford, blocking their access to education and social inclusion.
CCF's poverty reduction model focuses on 3 principles: ensuring access to quality education for marginalized children; removing barriers to education such as loss of earnings, food, healthcare, etc; and supporting families to create safe, nurturing communities. Over 60% of families previously kept children from school due to financial hardship. By offering rice incentives for attendance, CCF has reduced daily absenteeism to under 4%, helping children stay in school and break poverty cycles.
Education and Leadership are two core pillars of CCF's six programs. Education drives operations, while leadership prepares students to give back. The goal is to help youth become educated, self-reliant, and give back to their communities. The program supports students through formal and non-formal education, filling gaps in the public system. The long-term goal is for students to complete school, attend university, gain employment, and break the cycle of poverty for their families.
