Awaiting Vaccination Clinic

Dear friends of Haiti and Fondwa:

We hope you enjoyed a joyous holiday season, and are looking forward to 2025 with hope and energy to work for peace and justice in this troubled world. Haiti is no exception when it comes to "troubled." In 2024, the country continued to suffer under gang rule in the capital, and spreading to some rural areas. The impact of this insecurity has meant the dislplacement of many families, high prices, less food security, closed schools, and continued suffering for the Haitian people.

Thankfully, gangs have yet to target the south of the country, so here in the mountains of Fondwa, we have been relatively safe and able to carry out our work at the APF Fondwa Clinic. But, we are not untouched by the general situation caused by the uncontrolled insecurity and lack of functioning government.

Nevertheless, we never closed our doors, providing access to healthcare to those living in the mountains of the Fondwa region. Here is a summary of the 3rd Quarter of 2024:

There were a total of 351 individuals served for general consultation, in addition to children's vaccinations. The consultations addressed accidents, gastro-intestenal illnesses, diabites and high blood pressure, women's reproductive health, typhoid fever, malnutrition, respiratory illnesses, and other illnesses. If a case is too advanced for the clinic to manage, the patient is referred to a larger regional hospital (if still operational).

The APF Fondwa clinic is open for emergencies at all hours, 8-4 Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays. Vaccinations are given every first, second and third Thursday of the month, and we always take the opportunity to raise parents' awareness on topics that can help them, their children, their families and the environment. This s quarter, we talked with patients about the importance and different methods of family planning.

You are making all this possible. In the midst of such instability, we are there. Thanks to you. May 2025 be a year that sees a new hope for the world, and health and happiness for you and your family.

With gratitude,

Dr. M. Louinise Randiche and Assistant Kerline Thermozier
