Prep for Success Impact

Mentoring Students in our Prep for Success Program
Mentoring Students in our Prep for Success Program

The results of the 2023 Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) have been released and the scores of the students supported by Kiwimbi's Prep for Success Program show the incredible impact of our work. Similarily situated rural students typically pass at a rate of 10%. We are thrilled to announce that the students in our most intensive mentorship program passed at over 50% this year, and increased thier scores by an average of 40 points from the first county-administered practice exam at the beginning of the school year to the official exam at the end of the year! These are incredible results!!

The goal of Kiwimbi's Prep for Success Program is to prepare grade 8 students at our three Focus Schools for the Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), the required national exam that determines the quality of the secondary school to which each child will be offered admission. The secondary schools in Kenya range from high-quality, single-gender boarding schools at the top, down to co-ed day schools with over 100 students in a classroom with no books or other supplies besides a blackboard.

The students in our program work with Kiwimbi's teaching assistants in small tutoring and one-on-one mentorship sessions before and after school every day and on weekends, as well as throughout the school day because the teaching assistants also go into our Focus Schools to support the classroom teachers. The students are provided a daily lunch which ensures they have at least one nutritious meal each day.

Your support has clearly made a difference and we thank you!
