Kiwimbi's Prep for Success

Schools in Kenya will be closing at the beginning of August for a break between the third and fourth terms of the school year.  During this time, Kiwimbi will run daily Camps that provide academic lessons, as well as many other sports and games including chess, skipping rope, basketball, golf to name a few.  Every day, hundreds of students will fill the Library Campus including our Leadership Students. This is a group of students who completed our grade 8 Prep For Success Program during the last few years who return to Kiwimbi during school breaks. They receive mentorship in academics, public speaking and other skills while at the same time providing tutoring and extra help to the younger students.  All the students will have a daily lunch provided by Kiwimbi. We are grateful that our supporters continue to provide the funds needed to keep our programs going year-round, creating opportunity through education for so many children.

The Kenyan school year runs in conjunction with the calendar year, so the students in our Prep for Success Program in the 2023 school year took the national KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) exam at the end of their school year, late in November 2023.  We are thrilled to report that over 50% of the students passed the exam!  

The students at Kidek Primary, receive the most intensive support from Prep for Success because they are the most in need.  Our teaching assistants meet with them for one-on-one mentorship every day, six days a week.  These students took a mock KCPE exam to establish a baseline in March 2023. At that time, 26% were able to pass the exam.  After receiving support through Prep for Success, the pass rate on the actual exam soared to over 52%!  

The program really is making an impact on the education success of these students.
