Kiwimbi continues to provide opportunity through education for the rural, underserved children we support. This year we have been celebrating our 10th Anniversary! It was important totake time to look back on all that we have accomplished and to catch up with some of the students who were among the first to benefit from the academic support that Kiwmbi provides.
Meet Louis:
In this video he tells the story of where he is now, 10 years later, and how Kiwimbi's programs helped him.
One of our major programs is Prep for Success. The goal of this program is to provide lessons and academic support to prepare the students for the national Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam. (KCPE) This program is focused on about 200 Grade 8 students at 3 schools and includes small group tutoring, in-class support of the classroom teachers, a nutritious daily lunch, extra tutoring sessions when school is not in session and one-on-one mentoring for the most underserved of our population.
Typically rural students like those we work with pass at a very low rate, often less than 20%. 63% of the students who were supported by Kiwimbi's programs, who took the exam in 2021, passed! The results of he 2022 exam have not been announced as of yet but we expect good passing rates based on our internal assessment of the children we work with as compared to those we do not.
The expenses described in our project support these efforts.
Currently we have a VERY EXCITING matching opportunity! All gifts from NEW DONORS will be matched 2-to-1! For every dollar given from a new donor, the gift will be matched with $2.
We are excited to welcome new GlobalGiving donors to help us continue to make an impact on students like Louis!
