Communal Perspectives, Site Visits

This week, on Wednesday, we went to see the other JICA volunteers in Masii once again to get their detailed feedback and choose an appropriate location.

In addition to Masii Township Primary School, which we had previously visited, they suggested three other schools in the Mithini Sub-Location, which is part of Masii Location, and another schools outside of Masii town. Based on the schools' accessibility, likelihood of collaboration, and the distance students travel to attend, they suggested those establishments.

We spoke with each school's manager or senior teacher during our in-person visits to a few of them. They told us of the required steps we could take and were curious to learn how our Nafasi project may benefit the local children.

Regarding the project's season, we had originally intended to initiate it in December, but the volunteers advised against it, citing the dry season and the lack of activity among farmers as reasons for scheduling the project in August instead. Community members can also collaborate with us on the project.

The majority of schools will organise church events in December, and April has been designated as the rainy season. Regarding child safety, a volunteer proposed that the matrons and patrons of the church watch over kids while they are on their way.

She added that if we worked out a fair agreement with the volunteers, they may help us in our effort to protect children before they return home. Another idea is that we can take care of the boys and girls individually, along with the volunteers. Boys can be sent home later than girls.
