At our organization, we believe that every child, regardless of their past, deserves a chance to succeed. Yet, we are often asked, "Why focus educational support on children in conflict with the law, when there are many others who excel academically and show no behavioural issues?"
The answer is simple: these children, like all children in Kenya, are entitled to care and protection under the law. But more importantly, they are often overlooked and underserved. Few organizations provide the support needed to help these young people turn their lives around. That is where we come in.
We offer more than just short-term support. Our approach is holistic, focusing on reintegration and long-term support, ensuring that these children have the chance to rebuild their lives after being released from juvenile institutions. We work hand-in-hand with community volunteers, teachers, and families to create a strong support network. Many of these children come from dysfunctional families, where neglect or hardship led them to offend in the first place. Without community support, they risk falling back into a cycle of crime.
The reality is stark: many schools refuse to admit children who have been institutionalized due to stigma and behavioural concerns. Yet, we have seen firsthand how continued support—both in school and at home—can lead to remarkable success stories. Several of the young people we work with have graduated from secondary school and are now functional members of society.
Our impact does not stop there. Prevention is key. Through crime prevention initiatives, we educate children about common delinquency and provide them with essential life skills, such as self-awareness and assertive communication. With the guidance of teachers, parents, health practitioners, and spiritual leaders, we create safe spaces where these children can express themselves and develop into responsible individuals.
We recognize that poverty is one of the main drivers of juvenile crime. For many children, stealing for instance may seem like the only way to meet basic needs. That’s why we are committed to addressing the root causes of juvenile offending by equipping young people with the tools they need to make better choices and break the cycle of crime. Your contribution will help us expand our programs, reach more children in need, and create safer, more inclusive communities.
