Dear Donors,
Hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather.
This time we would like to introduce to you Caozhuang Elemenatary School. Caozhuang, located in Guanyun County, Jiangsu Province, is a school of 305 students and 15 teachers and administrators. The students at Caozhuang come from various rural parts of the Guanyun County. The majority of them are children left behind by parents who went to cities for work opportunities. At least a third of them are orphans, from single-parent families, or from families with income far below the poverty line. For these children, Caozhuang Elementary School is the only education resource available. Unfortunately, often what is available is not adequate.
Originally built in the 1970’s, Caozhuang had been expanded and revamped only a few times. Over the years, some of the buildings had become very dilapidated. In two of the oldest buildings, hardly any of the classroom doors and windows are free of damage and distortion. During spring and summer, bug and mosquito come in through the leaky doors and windows, and during fall and winter, cold draft. It pained us to see children learning and studying in such an environment, so we decided to help.
Last month, 20 aluminum alloy windows and 23 stainless steel doors replaced the old broken ones at Caozhuang. The renovation project costed a total of 33,514 RMB (~$5000), which all came from your support. Now, when the children spend their days in classrooms, they do not have to endure temperature swings, mosquito bites, or any other problems due to the poor environment before. A better physical setting for more effective education was made possible by your help. Everyone at Caozhuang is grateful for what you did. We cannot thank you enough.
Sincerely,
OCEF
