Pandemic is over but the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis is deeply tangible for Nepal society especially for people who live in rural areas. After loosing their jobs, Nepalese are fighting with the deep poverty.  Having low income and poor educational status they face compulsive difficulties to feed their families. From the beginning of Pandemic and during 2022 FOH was helping most vulnerable groups with the basic food, medicines, and necessity goods.

Distribution date: 2 October 2022.

Beneficiaries: 150 families from the Dalit community, residing at Dumrikharkha village Manthali Municipality 8, of Ramechhap district.

Dumrikharkha Villageis the settlements of Dalit community 130 kilometres from Kathmandu that can be reached by a six-hour bus ride to Manthali and another three to four-hour hike up the hill.

Dalits– people on the lowest level of traditional Hindu caste hierarchy. Those who called the "untouchables".

The help to this Dalit community was planed for June 2022 but delayed due to the local elections. Luckily in October FOH supported 150 families with:

  • 10-15 kg rice, 1lt oil, 1 kg beans/1kg mixed pulse, 1/2 kg soybeans, 1packet salt and species.
  • Necessity goods

Unfortunately, we couldn’t support this people with essential medicines, this time. Even Paracetamol is not available neither in the district hospital nor in private pharmacy of Manthali, Ramechhap. There is an acute shortage of essential medicines at Ramechhap’s health centres.

The Dalit community got basic food package with your kind help, dear donors, right before the biggest local Festival.

Dashain Festival- Mother of All Festivals. This is the longest Hindu festival in Nepal traditionally celebrated for two weeks with prayers to Durga, the Universal Mother Goddess.

The great harvest festival of Nepal is the time to forget about one’s worries and to ignore, for a moment, the many uncertainties of everyday life in Nepal — a country that, over the past two decades, has experienced a civil war, devastating earthquakes, political chaos, and pandemic.

Thank you, everyone, who supported this humanitarian project¸ look how grateful this disadvantaged people are.

Assessing the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on society, economy and vulnerable groups of Nepal, FOH continue helping to recover communities occurred in extreme poverty beyond the Pandemic in 2022.

Methodology:

Coordination with civil societies and local government for the identification of needy people within the community.

From our last report we planned to help one more Dalit community with 150 households in the Ramechhap district in June. But due to the local level election in Nepal and its code of conduct, we were not allowed to support them.

Now the election is over but the COVID-19 cases and it’s negative impacts are not over yet in this part of the World.

In September FOH is going to support the same Dalit community with basic food packets, including essential medicineas two of the major festivals of Hindus, (Dashain, and Deepawali) are starting and will last for almost a month. The funds needed are 4000$

FOH basic food packet bought in the local market include:

  • 10-15 kg rice, 1lt oil, 1 kg beans/1kg mixed pulse, 1/2 kg soybeans, 1packet salt and species.
  • Basic Medicines: Paracetamol, Sinex, and d-cold, one file each.
  • Necessity goods

Doing that we:

-       support as well local businesses and entrepreneurs

-       educate people about preventive measures as ventilation of indoor spaces, hand washing, keeping unwashed hands away from the face, using face masks to minimize the risk of transmission.

We are very grateful to everyone who support this project¸ as your generosity allowed miracles to happen.

During our mission we realized how much affected by crisis this people are. Pandemic stopped but consequences will be tangible years ahead. We look forward to continuing to support people of Nepal through 2022. To achieve our aim and to help more people and communities,we invite you to accompany us, dear donors. Sharing is the answer!

Our mission !

We're not done with Covid-19 yet, so let's join forces to continue to provide basic necessities and food to the underprivileged in Nepal

What have we done since the last report?
Thanks to your donations, we were able to support 130 families in the municipality of Kirtipur in Nepal on 25 December 2021. 116 are from the Tamand community (most of its members are daily wage workers, disabled persons, old person, single mothers) and 14 from the low road construction workers. The funds have been used to provide food (rice, beans, oil, salt/spices and soya beans) and basic items (basic medicine, mask and toilet soap).

We look forward to continuing to support those people affected by Covid-19 in Nepal through 2022. To accomplish this task, we count on your support, generous donors.

On behalf of the entire FOH team, we thank you for your trust and wish you a successful 2022 !

Our mission ! We’re not done with COVID-19 yet, so let’s join forces to continue to provide basic necessities and food to the underprivileged in Nepal.

Why are we fighting for ? Last year, COVID-19 rocked the entire planet. The consequences of this crisis have been felt at all levels (economy, health, politics, ...). This virus has affected us all. In developed countries we are fortunate to have institutions or systems that have been able to limit the damage. We can think of health care systems, insurance, technologies that can allow telework, etc. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to such lifelines. This is especially true in Nepal, where the impact of COVID-19 has been devastating for many people. Many have lost their jobs, relatives or life.

What we've done so far ? To combat this disastrous situation, we got your support, generous donors. You have allowed us to intervene on the ground and distribute food and basic necessities to many households. To accomplish this mission, we could count on our precious local team, lead by Mukunda Dhungana. This operation ran from June to October 2020.

And now ? We decided to continue supporting this population in 2021. The funds will be used to provide food (rice, beans, oil, salt/spices and soya beans) and basic items (basic medicine, mask and toilet soap) to the Tamang community in the municipality of Kirtipur in Nepal. This community consists of 116 households and most of its members are daily wage workers, disabled persons, old person, single mothers. It is for this reason that we are adding 3'000 USD  to the original budget of 7.000 and we call upon you, generous givers to achieve this goal.

Next week there will be a very important festival in Nepal called Tihar (or Deepawali) which lasts 5 days. Supporting people in need during this difficult period is a tangible action that will bring a spark of hope.

Your support and donations are greatly appreciated !
