Purchase of nature
- Sahyadri's team also surveyed the region for possible purchase of nature / private forests. In most cases Sahyadri found incomplete legal documentation or too many owners (in the range of 50 - 100) and so could not proceed further.
- Through this survey, Sahyadri identified three possible sites that meet legal documentation criteria and are closer to main ranges of Western Ghats, sighting of endangered wild life like leopard, pangolin. Sahyadri is discussing these proposals further with owners.
Awareness Drives
- Sahyadri's team conducted meetings with private forest owners having more than 25 acres of land and have practice of earning only by harvesting it entirety. Information about earning through minor forest produce, eco-tourism by protecting the forest and thereby help protect nature.
- "Mera Terah Run" is a team from Bangalore that had arranged a run along the entire western coast of India from Kanyakumari in South to Koteshwar in North. For consecutive 13 days, the team ran 13 miles at select 13 places along this entire route. During this run they had chosen Sahyadri's "My Jungle" program as one of the areas to spread awareness. In Konkan region, the run was arranged in Malwan and Chiplun. Locals participated in this run with "My Jungle" message. This event provided a good publicity platform for "My Jungle".
