In continuation of our last report and project activities, the music for the environment team decided it will be good to continue working with the pupils of solution Centre primary school Limbe. This decision was due to the great impact and interest the last set of activities had on the children and their household. The activities plan for this last session was full of outdoors activities. The children were encouraged to preach the gospel of environmental protection and degradation to all not just to their families. The music for the environment team thought the children poems and songs as well as organized debate programs to push the children to do more research as well as findings on how to make the environment a safe place for us all. One of the most remarkable activities the pupils of this school got involved in was the talk show on one of the most popular television houses in the south west region of Cameroon. This talk show was held on Hi TV on one of our environmental programs known as “Keep it Green”. Some children from the Solution Centre School were invited to be guest speakers on the show. In the course of the show the pupils’ discussion was based on the following outline: What is an environment? What is environmental protection? Actions that destroy the environment What can be done to protect the environment? This show was a great success, the was lot of feedback and interactions from the public. In the course of the general public also partake in the program through messages which were either contributions or words of encouragement to the young pupil. At the end of this show, the pupils recite some of the poems and well as sang the chorus of one of the environmental songs they wrote. They encouraged other young people to join the crusade to preach environmental protection and preservation.

The campaign to promote environmental best practices through Music in Cameroon, in the last 3 months was taken to the basic education level. The pupils of the Solution Centre Phonetic Education school for the past 3 months have been trained on the importance of singing sustainable music. During our time with these children, certain environmental problems affecting our environment such as climate change, deforestation and their effects where made known to the school children. At the forefront of this training was the Camer Green Ambassador Leslin. She took out time to develop short and simple lyrics which were used to educate the pupils during our time with them. The children of this school were excited learning new songs and poems different from the normal day to day songs they hear around. They were encouraged to sing these songs at home to their families so as to pass on the message.
In the last phase of our time with the children, they were encouraged to develop simple poems and even songs about certain environmental challenges they know the nation is facing. Awards were made available to 5 pupils with the best poems and songs.
The Solution Centre School is located in Limbe the South West Region of Cameroon. We plan on taking the campaign to other schools around the regions if possible.

Hi Tv session
“Man and the environment are indivisible”, that’s to say man cannot do without the environment. In line with the above quotation, there is a need to continue preaching the gospel of living friendly with the environment. We are part of the environment so we need to care for it as we care for our body. In the past months, the project music for the environment has adopted different ways and avenues to educate the public on the important to carter for the environment. Songs have been writing and sang in different rhythms to create the consciousness in the life of people. The impact and results has been tremendous and encouraging. This time around, the staff of RCESD took the doctrine of music for the environment to another height. In an effort to create more awareness and educate people on adapting and cultivating friendly environmental life styles, a talk was organized on one of the biggest and popular media house in the south west region of Cameroon (Hi Television). The program was held on the topic “Promoting Environmental Best Practices” and we had onboard environmentalist and musician who discussed our topic in detail. Our discussions where focused on: What environmental best practices are all about, some actions practiced by man which is detrimental to the environment, what positive habits can we cultivate to protect the environment and the power of music in preserving the environment. In the course of the program, one of the environmental artists present by name Percy Abain spoke to the public on some of the practices and habit which affect the environment negatively. He sang one of his environmental songs titled “the Earth song” at the end of his entertainment, he encouraged other artist out there to take out time to sing songs that sensitize people about the beauty of the environment. His watch word to the public was. “The power of music has never failed in transmitting information and it cool to sing about the environment”.
