Empowerment of Girls at Olokoro Girls Secondary School, Umuahia
Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation (AAAF) installed white boards in 13 classrooms at Olokoro girls secondary School in Umuaiha. The intervention was based on the need to eliminate dust from chalk particles and create a low-stakes environment that encourages active girls participation in the classroom and improve learning facilities.
The project also offers opportunities to fostering a collaborative relationship with the girls through counselling and mentorship. Using the new boards improves spatial awareness and facilitate easy correction of mistakes and reduce anxiety around complex tasks like handwriting and mathematics.
The whiteboards were presented along with markers and dusters. This intervention was aimed at making classroom instruction more effective and conducive for both teachers and students. Through this initiative, over 500 students of Olokoro girls secondary School directly benefited from the project.
