Report on the Matinza School Project

By Yan Huang | Administrative Officer

Dear Donors,

In the past four months running from December 15, 2024 to April 25, 2025, we thrived to achieve the goals the Matinza Sanitation project has set out to do. The Right to Quality Education team has continuously aimed to expand the reach and impact of our project, especially through establishing new partnerships and strengthening existing ones.

This quarter, we contacted 16 schools across Europe and New Zealand to propose fundraising collaborations. As a result, two “Walk for Water” events have been successfully scheduled for May at Cologne International School and United World College Maastricht. We are also maintaining regular contact with our local contractor in Uganda, ensuring that construction of the sanitary facilities and rainwater collection system can begin as soon as the first phase is funded.

Internally, we welcomed new volunteers—including an HR Officer to Administrative Officer. Members of our team also participated in workshops focused on design thinking and project management, helping us improve our strategy and collaboration. To support our outreach efforts, we updated and unified our Walk for Water brochure, designed new flyers, and published a carousel and video on social media highlighting our work and the success of past W4W events.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for the upcoming Walk for Water events and actively exploring new fundraising opportunities, including creative collaborations with student associations. We will also continue our outreach efforts with schools and aim to maintain regular monthly contact.

Please let us share a message with all donors: You make a huge impact on the lives of many school girls and boys by providing them with proper sanitation and adequate water, by doing so combating absenteeism and preventing the lack of access to quality education. Be sure to follow the Centre for African Justice, Peace, and Human Rights on social media to be informed about updates on the Matinza project and any upcoming events.
