Report on the Matinza School Project

By Yan Huang | Administrative Officer

Dear Donors,

In the past four months running from April 26, 2025 to August 31, 2025, our Right to Quality Education team has continued to advance the Matinza Sanitation Project while steadily expanding our visibility and fundraising network through a variety of activities. The highlight of this quarter was the organisation of two Walk for Water events in collaboration with European schools.

On May 23, the Internationale Friedensschule Köln successfully organised their event, collecting €846.18 through bank transfers, cash donations, and proceeds from snack and juice stands. On May 30, the UWC primary school in Maastricht held their Walk for Water event, raising €622.05. Together, these two events raised a total of €1,468.23, which will directly support the implementation of the Matinza project. Beyond fundraising, the events also created valuable opportunities for awareness-raising. During the Maastricht event, our team delivered a presentation about the daily challenges faced by schoolchildren in Uganda due to limited access to clean water and sanitation. Many students shared afterwards that they had gained a deeper understanding of the link between water and education, as well as the importance of their own actions.

Meanwhile, the team has also made progress in other areas. A new Social Media Manager has joined us, developing a structured communications plan to increase the visibility of our work. We also designed a new brochure and shared new fundraising ideas with student associations to encourage greater involvement. These efforts have further strengthened our ability to engage communities and supporters.

Please let us share a message with all donors: You make a huge impact on the lives of many school girls and boys by providing them with proper sanitation and adequate water, by doing so combating absenteeism and preventing the lack of access to quality education. Be sure to follow the Centre for African Justice, Peace, and Human Rights on social media to be informed about updates on the Matinza project and any upcoming events.
