Thank you so much for your kind support of loveisrespect, a project of the National Domestic Violence Hotline. So far in 2018 you have helped answer more than 21,000 calls, chats and texts from people across the country.
The impact if your support is critical to the young people and others who contact loveisrespect each and every day, some for the very first time. We're pleased to share a recent story with you from the lines.
"I spoke to Rachel*, a survivor in her late teens, who contacted loveisrespect via online chat. Rachel was in a long-distance relationship with a partner who was digitally, sexually, and emotionally abusive. He partner had threatened to release nude pictures she had sent him, and threatened to contact her family members. He frequently monitored her on social media, and had even called the police to her address (which she had not given him) when she said she was feeling depressed. We discussed ways that Rachel could protect herself digitally, document the abuse, and what reporting options might look like for her. Rachel was hesitant to tell her parents about what was going on, so we discussed whether there were other trusted adults in her life that she could turn to for support. We then focused on planning for her emotional safety and what self-care could look like for her."
"At the end of the chat, Rachel was feeling much better about her situation and happy to have some new options. She said, 'You do not even understand how helpful you've been for me. I appreciate your time and what you do. Thank you so much!'"
Thank you for helping young people like Rachel get the resources and support they so desperately need - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We can't do this work without YOU!
