Fall 2017

By Jessica Lewis | Senior Development Manager

Thanks to you, loveisrespect advocates have answered more than 55,000 requests for help so far this year! Thank you!

The impact if your support is critical to the young people who contact loveisrespect each and every day, some for the very first time. We're pleased to share a recent story with you from the lines.

"I spoke to Julia*, a woman in her 20's, who contacted loveisrespect because she was unsure if her relationship was healthy or not as it was her first relationship ever. After talking for a little while, we discussed how the behaviors Julia was describing indicated she was in a physically, digitally and emotionally abusive relationship. Julia's partner had strangled her before and was gaslighting her, saying that "women deserved to be put in their place." Julia is an immigrant and culturally she did not feel comfortable discussing this with anyone else. Her partner wanted to move her out of the United States and Julia was worried she would not be able to get a job as she just received her master's degree in the US. She was not sure if she wanted to stay or not since she loved him, but was appreciative that she had someone to talk to that would not blame her if she decided to stay. Together we developed a plan for Julia to stay safe while thinking about her options and I provided a shelter resource for her in case she decided she was ready to leave. At the end of the chat, Julia said, 'It felt so nice talking to someone who understands. Thank you so much. Have a great night. You've helped me so much just talking this through and I feel like I have the information to help me make the right decision.'"

Thank you for helping young people like Julia get the resources and support they so desperately need - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
