Project Report | Feb 8, 2018
Winter 2018

By Jessica Lewis | Director of Development

Thank you for your kind support of loveisrespect. In 2017 you helped answer more than 70,000 requests for help from people across the country. We couldn't have done this without you!

The impact if your support is critical to the young people who contact loveisrespect each and every day, some for the very first time. We're pleased to share a recent story with you from the lines.

"I spoke to Lisa*, a woman in her mid-20's, who contacted loveisrespectvia online chat. She shared that she felt generally disrespected in her relationship with her partner, who lived with her, as well as his child. While Lisa initially spoke of communication issues, and feeling mildly disrespected, it eventually came out that her partner was indeed abusive, digitally, emotionally, financially, and sexually. Lisa struggled to acknowledge that what she was experiencing was abuse, and she struggled with the idea that her abuse "mattered," or was important, because it didn't include physical abuse. After some extensive validation and education, she recognized that her situation DID matter, and the pain and trauma she was experiencing was real. While Lisa wasn't ready to seek any local resources at this time, our conversation served as a transformative moment for her to recognize and validate her own abuse and trauma, and set her on the path towards long-term safety and wellness.

"At the end of the conversation, Lisa said,'Thank you so much for your time and support, you have been really helpful. I really appreciate it!'"

Thank YOU for helping young people like Lisa get the resources and support they so desperately need - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We hope you'll join us for some activites during February - Teen Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Wear Orange Day is February 13! See the rest of the month's activities here.
