The Life Skills Training Program by the Christopher Kolade Foundation (CKF) was designed to equip 500 girls from public senior secondary schools in Lagos, Nigeria with skills that can help them build confidence, solve problems, manage their lives in a productive manner, make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, and make a positive contribution to the community.
The sexuality and reproductive health education component of the program is delivered in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education, and Youth Development and Empowerment Initiative (YEDI), an adolescent health organization. Through the YEDI partnership, we aim to address some barriers keeping girls from low-income families from completing secondary school and pursuing university education. Of these barriers, sexual abuse and early pregnancy rank high among the population of girls we serve. The sexuality sensitization and education program will include training modules in sexuality education, sexual abuse and gender-based violence prevention. Our life skills development program includes modules in, self-awareness, self-esteem, communication, goal setting, and values & leadership.
Following an application process into CKF’s SHE Initiative Program, 509 girls from 22 senior secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria were selected to be beneficiaries of the Life Skills Training Program and other programs to be delivered by the Foundation. We are just a few weeks away from the commencement of the program and are looking forward to sharing progress reports with you in subsequent reporting cycles.
