This project will equip 500 school girls from low-income families with life skills that will help them solve problems, manage their lives in a productive manner, make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, and make a positive contribution to the community. The project will include training modules in sexual abuse and gender-based violence prevention, self-awareness, self-esteem, communication, goal setting, and values & leadership.
The percentage of adolescent girls who do not complete high school remains high in Nigeria with a greater proportion among girls from lower income homes. Among the barriers keeping girls from completing secondary education and hindering learning include parental discrimination, economic constraints, early pregnancy and marriage, and sexual abuse. This project will equip 500 school girls from lower-income families in Lagos State with life skills that will ultimately help contribute to a positive.
The girls will be equipped with the skills to persist through the many barriers to advancing their education. It will also orient them on the transforming power of education for themselves and their communities. Workshops will train them on the following: self-awareness, problem-solving, effective communication, personal goal-setting, building and maintaining healthy and safe relationships, identification of abuse, what to do if abuse occurs, and how to be change agents in their communities.
The project will equip 500 adolescent school girls from low-income families with the skills that will help to improve self-efficacy, manage their lives in a healthy and productive manner, and empower them to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. This will help reduce the likelihood of dropping out and promote retention through their high school education.
