Provide labs and books for children in Kuppam

Greetings from Agastya!!

With your support Agastya has reached out to 4,415 children and provided them access to Books and other online media and tools of communication.

During the reporting period (April’15-June’15) 815 children visited the library. Apart from regular reading sessions, activities were conducted related to storytelling, story writing and reading through creative ways using puppets and dice. Children participated in activities such as Origami, Puppet making and “my dictionary making” activity. These activities were conducted to improve their reading levels and to encourage children to cultivate the habit of reading. Attached is the detailed report for this project.

From the grant received through the project on GlobalGiving, Agastya has reached out to over 3600 children and provided them access to Books and other online media and tools of communication. Apart from conducting regular reading classes, the library also conducted tests to assess the reading levels of the children visiting the Campus and made efforts to improve the same.

 The Library also actively connected with the villages through Community Library projects conducted in 6 villages. In a Community Library, old books which can be re-used and passed on to others are collected from the community and stocked at a common place so that everyone can have easy access to them.

Agastya also donated books to the community Libraries and provided training to children and volunteers to take care of books, catalogue them and continue the Library project.

Further, the library also conducted story-telling and reading workshops for children to improve their reading levels and to encourage children to cultivate the habit of reading.

The library’s books were also used for reference by the Government school teachers from the nearby villages.

Close to 500 children visit the Creativity Lab every day. Agastya is determined to sustain this pattern and encourage more and more children to redeem a quality educational experience.
