Ignatius, 21 years old, aka The Kibera Kid
Editors note: Ignatius was chosen to be The Kibera Kid in the award winning short film, released in 2007. Ignatius lives in Kibera, one of the largest slums in East Africa, located in Nairobi, Kenya
Being in the short film The Kibera Kid changed my life to focus from just thinking about my problems in Kibera and how Kibera was bad to thinking about how I could become a great person in society.
This was because despite the fact that I was just a small boy from Kibera, I had featured in a film that received universal recognition. I started living in a world of believing in new possibilities for myself and my community.
Currently I am a student at the University of Nairobi finishing a degree in diplomacy and international studies. I am majoring in international relations and public international law. My big plans for the future are that after the degree course I want to source for opportunities to further my studies, to do a master sin public international law, foreign policy analysis or international security.
Hot Sun Foundation has proved to be an avenue where less privileged persons who would not have known how their future would look like can have the chance to start modelling the futures that they want. It has helped open my scope of seeing things around me.
Open up possibilities for more youth in East Africa.
