Keep Girls in School with Reusable Sanitary Pads

One of the leading causes of school absenteeism among adolescent girls in rural Uganda is the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products. This project is addressing that challenge by providing practical support and life-changing education.

Over the past months, vulnerable girls received reusable sanitary pads and participated in menstrual health awareness sessions. These sessions equipped them with knowledge and skills needed to manage menstruation safely and confidently.

School leaders reported a reduction in menstrual-related absenteeism among beneficiaries. Girls are attending classes more consistently, improving their academic performance and maintaining stronger connections with their peers.

The project also engaged parents and community members through awareness meetings focused on reducing stigma and encouraging support for girls' health and education. These conversations are helping create lasting social change.

Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and shared how it has improved their confidence and sense of belonging at school. By addressing a key barrier to education, the project is opening doors to greater opportunities and brighter futures.

Menstrual health is closely linked to educational success, yet many girls in rural Uganda lack the resources needed to manage their periods safely and confidently. This project continues to address that challenge through targeted support and education.

During the quarter, we reached vulnerable girls with menstrual hygiene kits and comprehensive awareness sessions. Participants learned about reproductive health, hygiene practices, and ways to manage menstruation effectively while continuing their education.

The response from schools has been overwhelmingly positive. Attendance records indicate fewer absences among supported girls during menstruation. Students reported feeling more comfortable and less anxious about attending school throughout the month.

Teachers and community leaders also participated in sensitization activities designed to challenge stigma and encourage supportive attitudes toward menstrual health. These efforts are helping create environments where girls feel accepted and valued.

Several beneficiaries shared that the project has given them renewed confidence and motivation to remain in school. By addressing a fundamental barrier to education, we are helping girls build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
