Public Lands Alliance organized and convened a Regional Partnership Meeting for the Rocky Mountain region in May 2026, in Lakewood, Colorado. The meeting was designed to bring together public lands agency representatives alongside Public Lands Alliance and its nonprofit members; to share the priorities and perspectives of nonprofit partners, to hear from agencies about the operating realities they face, and to build common ground around the policies and practices that would most meaningfully strengthen on-the-ground partnerships in the region.
The event was structured as facilitated dialogue sessions between nonprofit leaders and regional agency leadership, closing with a working session to identify next steps and roles PLA can play in supporting the partnership community. The meeting brought together executive leadership from nonprofit partner organizations serving National Parks, National Forests, wildlife refuges, trails, and wilderness areas across Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, and the broader region.
The conversations reflected an administration and partnership landscape that is navigating significant pressures. Several themes emerged across the agency sessions:
The meeting achieved its central purpose: transforming individual advocacy efforts into the beginnings of a coordinated regional voice, rooted in stronger relationships. The support of donors and our community will allow us to continue building regional coalitions in support of public lands - helping ensure their protection for future generations. Collaborative partnerships are a critical component of supporting these lands and Public Lands Alliance remains committed to that mission.
