The Public Lands Alliance (PLA) is the national voice for the nonprofit partners of America's public lands. We provide support and counsel to partners that advocate directly with state and local governments and their land management agencies. PLA seeks to strengthen policies and legislation that enhance public lands partnerships in order to protect and conserve the nearly 1.4 billion acres of public lands and waters throughout the United States.
Federal land management agencies are facing unprecedented challenges including elimination of staff, cuts to financial assistance, dismantled programs, and other disruptions impacting the entire public lands community. These disparities highlight the urgent need for advocacy and policy changes that can lead to tangible improvements across our cherished National Parks, Forests, Wildlife Refuges and public lands across the country.
PLA helps land management agencies, and their partners accomplish more together despite their staffing and funding challenges. We ensure the development of new policies, procedures, and agreements have the opportunity to improve landscape-level conservation and private support. Our work illuminates any hurdles presented by the legislative authorities unique to each agency, thereby forming the basis for recommendations to Congress.
Advancing partnerships and advocacy at a local and regional level will help improve the laws, regulations, and policies employed by land management agencies to partner with nonprofit organizations. This will lead to stronger nonprofit organizations who can then mobilize their constituents to influence Congress to further help propel public lands partnerships.
