2020 starts with big changes - but we are excited!

Delivering Christmas Gifts and Cookies to the Bars

Hello everybody!

Greetings from Thailand. We trust that you had a great start into 2020 and hope that it will be an exciting year for you. Here at Tamar Center we had an amazing start into the new year with a day of reflection and goal setting on the 3^rd of January. But on the 8^th of January we got a special treat for everyone: We were able to visit the Pattaya Elephant Sanctuary with all our women. Most of them had never been close to an Elephant before and some were very scared but, in the end, everyone enjoyed it. We fed the elephants, showered them, walked through the jungle with them and even took a bath together. Great time of team building!

But looking back we are also very thankful for a great time of Christmas Celebrations and a good, needed break for everyone in between Christmas and the New Year. We had a nice Celebration at a local Hotel, and everyone enjoyed their gifts, the puppet show and the great food and games. December was a very busy month for everyone. We had many orders for our products and had several stands at local Christmas Markets where we were able to sell our products. Our Bakery had to do many hours of overtime, as more and more orders came in for our special Christmas cookies and cakes.

January will be a time of big change for everyone at Tamar. Four of our women are leaving us and starting a yearlong Hairdressing and Beauty school. We are very happy that they enrolled there, as we know this school very well and they will get some excellent education there. Two of our women have done this school last year, graduated in December and are now working in the Tamar Hair Salon in Soi 6 to reach out to women that are still trapped in the bars. Both have done very well at the school and we like to see their skills now put into practice – which has already brought in many new customers to our shop. Three other women are moving to Khon Kaen and will be participating in a six-month long school, they will return afterwards to us. Currently we also have two pregnant women will us, they are at similar stages of their pregnancies and so we will have two new babies with us at the end of March or early April. As you can see – many changes!

In February we are looking forward to several different teams coming to visit us and work with us, especially for our big Valentines Outreach where we hope to reach hundreds of women that are currently working in the bars. We will have the big Outreach on the 14^th and will follow up with a Party at a local Hotel on Monday the 17^th for all the women that are interested in joining Tamar.

Outreach to the Bars

Hello everybody!

Thank you for your continued support of the work that we are doing here in Pattaya. It is time for another update again.

Please imagine you are a young girl, have just arrived in the big city and are working in a bar where you are expected to sexually service the customers. Imagine you see a lot of foreigners coming and eyeing you the whole night, sizing you up, etc.? I guess we can all agree that that is not a good situation. But this is exactly how one of the young women that has started at Tamar has felt when she arrived in Pattaya and started working in a bar. Thankfully she did not work in the bar for a long time – she met one of our Outreach teams and decided to leave the bar and come join our vocational program. You should see her now, she is a different woman, even though she is only a few weeks with us, she is relaxed, smiles, asks questions and learns and makes plans for the rest of her life. That is the change that you are making possible through your donation.

Here are some other short updates for you:

In October we had an Inner Healing Seminar from a local Couple that has a lot of experience. They spent time with our women as a group and also individual. The Seminar helped our women to have breakthroughs and to work through some Traumas from their past
We are busy working on many orders of the products that our women are making, especially the Christmas Cards. Check them out at the link below if you are interested.
During the school holidays we took the Tamar Children and the Moms to an aquarium. It was the first time for most of them and they enjoyed their time
The Tamar free English Classes have attracted several new women that are coming regular
One of our women had the desire to go deeper with her English and we were able to pay lessons for her at a local English School. She is making good progress

Vocational Training Graduation

Hello everybody!

Very happy that today I can update you about the Graduation Ceremony of the Tamar Vocational and Life Training. In the last report we wrote about the start of the Training Program and now the three months of the Training are already over. We are very glad to report that all seven women have finished and graduated!

As you can see in the pictures, they are happy, and we are proud of them. It is hard to imagine that just three months ago six of them were still selling themselves in the Bars of Pattaya. Now, their life has changed, and they are doing good. Five of them finished the hairdressing training and one the bakery training. Six of them are planning to stay with us and one has decided to return to the countryside to her family, as her father sadly had a stroke and half his body is paralyzed. She wants to help take care of him and later return to us. The others will stay and will continue to work in their jobs with us. We have already offered them to start a further, deep Training with a local school and they are thinking about that. They also want to bring some more of their children to Pattaya and we are talking this through with them.

This Training has been a surprisingly smooth one. There were no big dramas, nobody left in the middle of it. That does not mean that it was always easy. Some of the women carry some deep traumas with them, some stories of abuse came to light and their recovery is not finished. But they have taken the first steps in the right direction and we are very proud of them for doing this and will continue to walk beside them.

The rest of the Tamar Team is also doing well. They are working on a huge order of 1800 Christmas Cards from a Company in Germany and it is all hands-on deck to help to finish them before the deadline. In the next weeks our Staff that facilitated the Training is taking a bit of a breather and some well-deserved time off to re-charge their batteries. And soon, in early October, there will be the next school holidays in Thailand and our kids are looking already forward to this. Talking about kids, hope you enjoy the picture with the new wall painting in our Nursery. A visiting team did this great job and it makes the Nursery a much friendlier place

It is amazing and I wished you could all be here to see it with your own eyes. Thank you for trusting us and giving us the opportunity to work with these beautiful women.
