Tamar Center was created to offer hope, healing and a new life to the estimated 35,000 bargirls and ladyboys involved in prostitution in Pattaya. We do this by reaching out, building relationships, offering vocational training, counseling and providing life teaching in order for the women to be able to leave the sex industry behind them.
Pattaya City stretches for about 15 km along the Gulf of Thailand and is located about 100 km south of Bangkok. It is the unofficial Sex Tourism Capital of the world. More than 6 million tourists visit Pattaya each year. The main reason for most people to come is the nightlife of the city. In Pattaya there are more than 35000 women and ladyboys working in Prostitution. Many of them do not like this work, are getting forced from their families and are sick with HIV and STD's.
The goal of Tamar Center is for these women to be able to leave the sex industry behind and to be able to return to a normal life. We provide counceling and vocational training (hairdressing, baking, cooking, sewing and handicrafts). We offer jobs in our businesses to the women and help with further education with the goal for them to either start their own small businesses or to have enough skills for them to be employed in a good paying job. We also provide child care for their children.
Our goal for the women is to leave Pattaya, maybe return to their families and to have a normal life outside of the sex industry. We will train the women job skills and help them to find employment or help them to start their own small business so that they can provide for themselves and their children. Also, when they return to their families, they will help to prevent other young girls and boys to start a work in the sex industry.
