Progress report on Help Educate Mukinyai Orphans
By Jane Karanja | Project Coordinator.
This project has enabled 50 pupils from Mukinyai school to acquire uniforms, pay school fees ensuring their participation in school activities. Their families have also benefited from livelihood projects that include; energy saving stoves, poultry and tree seedlings for establishment of woodlots. The third term has come to a close, and about 10 pupils from the beneficiaries are taking their final primary school exam starting 4th - to 6th December, 2012 and we believe they will make it to Secondary Schools to enhance their education, so we still need funds for these pupils to ensure their brighter future.
We thank our donors, for the far we have come together, let’s not tire in doing good.

Progress report on Help Educate Mukinyai Orphans

Mukinyai pupils who are orphans and beneficiaries of the support provided by well-wishers have a reason to smile again as they prepare to go back to school for third term. They say the holiday was enjoyable and more so very important to them as they had an opportunity to attend tuition classes as the exercise of fetching firewood as a daily duty during holidays is no more. This is after their guardians received energy saving stoves. This has created big impact to the guardians and pupils as they can now utilize little firewood as a result of using the stoves. It has been consuming a lot of time for the children and women to fetch firewood. Children had enough time to do their holiday homework and gave an opportunity for others to attend tuition classes and especially those preparing to sit for their final exams in November. Having received uniforms has also contributed a lot to the orphans as they are able to be in school all the time unlike before when they felt isolated and felt odd with other pupils with their home clothes in school and of course since their guardians could not afford shoes and smart clothes for them, they used to miss school most of the time and this led to poor performance. Their teachers have really appreciated this support also as they used to complain a lot to the guardians due to poor performance of these pupils and absenteeism. We wish to thank the donors for their continued support.

10 pupils have been supported with school uniforms, shoes and required text books. It has also emerged that the beneficiaries are improving in their academic work, as they now feel more confident and at par with other pupils as they can now dress smartly to school. 20 households have benefited from energy saving jikos, and this is one way of reducing forest degradation and ensuring they have more time for other activities especially increasing food production to ensure enough for home consumption and sale of surplus to supplement their income.
Words from Elizabeth Cheptoo, one of the beneficiaries.
“I am very happy for the new uniform now I feel very confident and same as other pupils, in fact I was position one during the midterm examination and I believe the support I got has contributed to this.Thank you very much for your support”
