Help Educate 330 Mukinyai School Orphans, Kenya

By Lucy Mathenge | Project Assistant

Although the situation in Mukinyai was not really good in 2nd term, the situation has improved a bit as there were some rains and the farmers were busy in their farms although that could not help them much as it would not solve the immediate family needs but all in all farmers benefited from one way or the other.

As in the previous report, we conducted the need assessment in three secondary schools namely Mukinyai, Sachangwan and Koige.  These schools are along Nakuru-Eldoret highway and the have high number of orphans and vulnerable children.  The assessment was done to identify the most vulnerable students to be supported with the funds raised by kind donors on GlobalGiving.  We are happy to report that we identified 8 students from the 3 schools, although the need was higher than that, we only managed to support 8 of them.  We supported them with a set of school uniforms, shoes, text books and recyclable sanitary towels for the girls as well as school fees for 1st and 2nd term.  During the assessment and distributions we learn from the beneficiaries, parents and guardians the many challenges they are going through we had stories from all 8 beneficiaries which were very touching.  Some beneficiaries are living in very poor temporary houses and the kids have to walk very long distances to and from school every day.  In their stories, some are going to school on empty stomachs

All the beneficiaries we identified are currently performing very well in school despite of being out of school most of the school days as they are sent home for school fees every now and then.  They all promised to work very hard and those in positions 1 one will maintain the good performances.  They were all excited when receiving the uniforms, books, sanitary towels and school fees.  They confessed that their prayers have been answered and the expressed their gratitude to all those who have supported them and they hope that the support will continue till they finish their studies.  They all mentioned the good jobs they want to do once they grow up namely doctors, pilots, lawyers and nurses.  We encouraged them to work hard for them to achieve their goals and make their lives and that of their families brighter.   We promised to support them up to form four if possible and we believe that together with the well-wishers we will keep the promise.  I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all those who considered supporting this noble project and we hope that they will still consider extending their support to these students and many other.
