Greetings from STEPS NGO
The Mission of STEPS NGO is to provide better future to the most vulnerable women, children of those particularly deprived sections by protecting their health needs and rights, women’s reproductive health, through education, environment and improving their living conditions with an integrated approach. We believe that good health, well being and access to affordable health services are fundamental human rights.
The primary goal of STEPS is to improve the health and welfare of the people with an emphasis on preventative healthcare programs. In future we will expand different Health programs for girls and women. We have specialized health care providers for community health care, maternity and pediatric services for adults and children. We are providing health care to people living in slums.
Dear Friends, I am sharing with you story of Munilakshmi living in Gajendranagar, Salipeta one of the slum in Srikalahasti Municipality, Andhra Pradesh state, India.
When Munilakshmi was 21 years old, married Raju who belongs to same area. Their occupation is weaving and through which they used to earn money. After 5 months of their marriage she became pregnant. She did not have medical checkups. During 9 th month she was admitted in Area hospital with labour pains. Due to high Blood pressure she delivered dead baby.
After Six months again she became pregnant. STEP UHC ANMs advised her to have checkups in STEPS Urban Health Centre. From the beginning she had regular checkups and treatment. After 9 months she was referred to Area hospital for delivery. She had a safe delivery and gave birth to a male child. After 1 year she gave birth to a second male child. Both of them are healthy, immunized and having regular health checkups in STEPS Urban Health Centre.
With the generous support of Global Giving donors, STEPS NGO is able to improve Health care access to women like Munilakshmi and her children.
