Although we have retired our Chinese project fundraiser on GlobalGiving, for the very first time, we are using this platform for our local Green Map NYC project. We're doing lots of important, inclusive with our own local community.
We invite you to check out our profile, including the documentation to find out about our climate projects and how this will impact Green Maps being made around the world, including in China, Taiwan and in Chinese-speaking communities all over. Thank you for your attention, and we hope, your contribution!

Our thanks to you for all your support over the years supporting the "Greening of China with Green Maps". There are now more than 20 interactive Open Green Maps made by Chinese speaking people, and dozens of printed Green Maps plus workshop editions in use!
When we review the many reports we have shared over the last decade, it’s wonderful to see how many projects were accomplished - take a look! Beginning way back in November 2008, there are many terrific stories and photos - you have also helped us create videos, maps and tools in Chinese in NYC - the reports have links to all!
We are now closing this project to new donations, but invite you to come to our global page on Global Giving - where you can continue to pitch in toward our work around the world. We also invite you to get on our own mailing list at GreenMap.org/home
Thank you, once again for all you have done for local Green Mapmakers and for our team in New York!

Green Map System took part in NYC's Earth Day DOT Car-free Celebration on April 21 - we shared animated GIFS, which you can see at giphy.com/GreenMap ! Give them a try in your own social media, emails, website etc and help promote this movement and your own postitive actions. We were glad that JingJing He, a young Green Mapmaker studying in New York from Anhui China could pitch in.
We are big fans of Jane Jacobs and her work to humanize cities is celebrated in many countries this weekend with Jane's Walks led by local citizens. Our May 6 Jane’s Walk doubles as a Lower East Side History Month walking tour - join us for Past. Present. Future of the LES. All are welcome at this free event. Meet us at 11:00 am for a 2 hour walk that starts and ends at the Stanton Building. Details here.
Our director is also taking part in Open Engage 2018 at the Queens Museum. We had a great time there in 2014, and look forward to being part of a panel on Sunday, May 13. A few days later, Wendy is the commencement keynote speaker at Parsons School of Design Strategies, then she heads to Europe to host events and talks with Green Mapmakers in Denmark, Sweden, Romania, Switzerland and Finland!
In March, Green Map Jayapura hosted a beach clean up in Papua Indonesia! Our board member, Barent Roth is teaching 3-D Printing techniques to Parsons students and testing out some new game and marker concepts with us. In April, we hosted Tokyo Green Mapmaker Masahiro Horiuchi, who presented his Share Hub and Share Map at MORUS NYC. We'll soon be posting a better video on Facebook.com/GreenMap, a great spot to follow our most recent actions.
To date in 2018, groups from the US, Colombia, UK and Guineau have joined us a new Green Mapmaking projects. On behalf of the ever-growing Green Map network, Thank You! Have a meaningful spring, wherever you live.
Thank you donors, for your ongoing support of our work!
As you know, at Green Map, we think globally and map locally. Over the past few months, we have been deepening our understanding of the United Nations 2030 Goals - these are also known as the SDGs, the sustainable development goals.
You have probably seen the rainbow ring for these 17 goals and the powerful issues they address. Interestingly, the SDGs correlate with the 170 Green Map Icons. We have created a chart with the involvement of Green Mapmakers in the UK and Switzerland. We are especially grateful to cartographer Ken Josephson at University of Victoria in Canada, for his design of the attached chart and great work on our soon to be released third edition of Mapping our Common Ground!
Now, we are working on a series of projects that will engage people in new ways. Among them is creating a Chinese version of this SDGs and Green Map Icons chart. Ken, mentioned above, will be working with 300 Chinese university students this spring. He says, “this would be a great opportunity for our students to work on cards, icons, resources and activity how-to's.” We look forward to sharing these outcomes here at Global Giving, and with your help, to activate communities in China and Taiwan.
Our best wishes to all for a healthy winter.

This season, we are out in the streets, conducting tours for climate experts, university students and the public, exploring resiliency and sense of place while visiting historic sites and social community-based solutions. We’ve had the opportunity to bring visiting Chinese environmentalists and local thought leaders together in our own neighborhood on the first day of their US study tour, and everyone gained new perspectives as a result.
Our global work continues to grow, most recently adding Incheon South Korea, a Spanish green business project and a nearby county, Bergen NJ, to our roster of locally-led Green Map projects. Have you ever noticed the list of all Green Map projects? It's here, with the newest first - it's remarkable how strong the presence of Chinese Mapmakers is!
Right now, we’re reaching new audiences in Oaxaca Mexico, when we are presenting global outcomes including the maps made in China at the Ecosystem Change & Society conference. We are presenting with Mexican Green Map projects, and planning educational workshops for the coming year.
As we give people the tools needed to engage in making a local assessment, we equip them to change perspectives about community assets and liabilities. This awareness contributes to positive, cross-cutting actions with across the board benefits. Thank you for your contribution to community well-being!
