Green Map System took part in NYC's Earth Day DOT Car-free Celebration on April 21 - we shared animated GIFS, which you can see at giphy.com/GreenMap ! Give them a try in your own social media, emails, website etc and help promote this movement and your own postitive actions. We were glad that JingJing He, a young Green Mapmaker studying in New York from Anhui China could pitch in.
We are big fans of Jane Jacobs and her work to humanize cities is celebrated in many countries this weekend with Jane's Walks led by local citizens. Our May 6 Jane’s Walk doubles as a Lower East Side History Month walking tour - join us for Past. Present. Future of the LES. All are welcome at this free event. Meet us at 11:00 am for a 2 hour walk that starts and ends at the Stanton Building. Details here.
Our director is also taking part in Open Engage 2018 at the Queens Museum. We had a great time there in 2014, and look forward to being part of a panel on Sunday, May 13. A few days later, Wendy is the commencement keynote speaker at Parsons School of Design Strategies, then she heads to Europe to host events and talks with Green Mapmakers in Denmark, Sweden, Romania, Switzerland and Finland!
In March, Green Map Jayapura hosted a beach clean up in Papua Indonesia! Our board member, Barent Roth is teaching 3-D Printing techniques to Parsons students and testing out some new game and marker concepts with us. In April, we hosted Tokyo Green Mapmaker Masahiro Horiuchi, who presented his Share Hub and Share Map at MORUS NYC. We'll soon be posting a better video on Facebook.com/GreenMap, a great spot to follow our most recent actions.
To date in 2018, groups from the US, Colombia, UK and Guineau have joined us a new Green Mapmaking projects. On behalf of the ever-growing Green Map network, Thank You! Have a meaningful spring, wherever you live.
